ive been experimenting and have found that the drop out is on the frequency/track/whatever it is that voice and vocals are on. Ive tested music, movies and games, and each time its the voice that drops out. In movies you can hear the sound effects and music but not voices, in music you can hear the track but not the vocals, and the same with games. Ive installed the most comprehencive codec pack I could lay my hands on and it does not fix it.

There are several threads on this, it's been a problem for months. Now, if THAT doesn't help, you've got a beast of another sort.
I'm with you. Funny thing is when sound quality's at max, it's ok initially I believe and then it starts disappearing. Maybe the sound card runs out of memory and then the glitches start, so there's so kind of sound memory leak? Btw, are you using the latest DirectX, ie Apr 2006?

And it seems the OP and the others do indeed have a more serious problem.
