Ok, replace the cable to be safe. Take a look at the routers config. What router do you have?
Try resetting the router, cable modem, and computer.
Try some speed tests online, google to find some.
The fact that it is not registering the cable should point to a compy problem. Try an other jack if your computer has one, try upgrading the drivers for the nic.
After you do all that I am sure I will think of more things to try lol
