Guild Wars Shuts Down My Comp During Gameplay!!! Help!!
I have Guild Wars, and Guild Wars Factions, when i play either of them, during gameplay, my computer shuts down. When it shuts down, i cant turn it back on without complete reset. On the top right corner of my Guild Wars screen, there are yellow numbers that say like 3gb or sumtin, when i played at my friends house, it stayed around 2.5-4 GB, but when i play on my comp, it increases! I dont really notice the time when it shuts down, but the highest ive seen it at is around 30gb. PLEASE HELP!

Also, im not a super geek, so i dunno what version and all that crap it is, all i did was download Guild Wars into my comp, the one with the Necromancer and Warrior on the cover, and played. I downloaded it a while ago, like months b4, it worked real fine, but recently its been acting crappy. My friend let me have access to his Factions account so i can play factions on my regular guild wars, i didnt download factions.

now that i think about it, its been shutting down like that ever since i started playing factions on my regular guild wars, butttt it even shuts down for regular propheices, i dont think it has anything to do with factions, because i didnt download factions, i just got the account name and passward, but i guess i have to download like the pics and graphics for it... My brother thinks we have a virus so hes scanning...

The numbers in the top right of your screen should be white with a yellow lightning bolt. Thats the amount of small updates and such that youve streamed while youre playing. That's nothing to to worry about. As for the shutting down, does your computer crash? Power itself off? Freeze up? Ive done tech support and a bit of networking at my school(no small feat, with the teachers being so destructive through ignorance). Need a bit more info to tell what could be happening.

Oh, well it jsut completely shuts down. I took off a side part of my computer just to see inside, and when you tunr the comp on, there are fans inside that spin, but when guild wars does its crappyness thing, the fans stop, which means my comp is off. After that, i cant turn it back on. The only way is to press the switch on the back of my comp, wait 10 minutes, turn it back on, wait 5 minutes, then turn my comp on.

im not alone with that problem. my compy does the same thing. luckly my father is a computer sicientist so i got him to take a look at my computer.
i did not realy understand WHAT was he saying because he was using his own Computer language, bue i undrstood that it was "overworked" and it turned off was like a "safety measure" that my PC automaticly taken not to melt its insides, appearently when it overworeed it overheated. also when i try to turn it on too soon after it crashed, it does an "alarm" bip.
also i heard him saying something about a power supply board being and VID card being overworked and "old", but this is anouther problem we got. i dont know if those two are related, but the other problem is that sometimes my desktop "looses" the computer. meaning that the computer is on, but desktop is showing as if it has no signal and is on on its own.
before it was doin ONLY that, but about a mounth it started sutiing down completely like your PC. my dad promised me to take a close look this weekend, so if its any help to you (if yours "had" same simptoms")i can post whats REALY wrong with mine
now as much as i know, factions has more graphics details then prophecies, so maby it simply cant handle the dowloads and graphics, so it does its best, overheats and shutts down? now, im not scientist, and i dont know more then you. its just what i understood from my father talking to himself while looking.

This, my friend, souds like overheating.
Try placing graphics display to a minimum, and making sure your computer has good ventilation. *useually one fan isn't enough....* If you're computer is getting outdated, it's going to work harder to perform, so set the parameters low and help it out a bit. Also, make sure to dust it, it's not conducive to run in a dusty environment. Furthermore, make sure nothing is running or connecting to the internet in the background, like AIM, MSN, or whatnot. *even things like Liveupdate shoudl be shut off*
That should work to keep it happy.

anouther thing.
this room where i have my PC doesnt have airconditioning. I notice that the "restarting sydrom" occurs more often during hot days when the room is hot. on cooler days its hardly ever doin this. so yea, it is overheating. try to install am outside fan next to the computer if it gets bad. i do that too
so yea what my father said makes more sence now cuz my PC is also getting kinda old

Seems like its over heating... idk try a real tech forum (google one I guess).
Perhaps you need to clean out the dust in the fans etc. I know my computer was shutting off as you describe when I first brought it home from college... but after I blew it out with some dust off or something like that it works fine.

o.O i'm not alone
pls post evrthing ur father said pls pls
oh and i also has some problems with turning my comp on after it shuts itself down, i got new power supply, but still some weird things happen - every time i'm trying to start it - by pressing POWER - fans are staring to work just fine and cd-roms leds wink to me couple of times but then nothing happens.... i have to use RESET button repeatedly for a few min and then out of sudden miracle happens and it starts itself... but not the normal start-up screen - it looks like i'm actually rebooting it.... it happens every time i'm staring it, even if i turned it off day be4 w/o any problems....
i was sure that it just begs for new power supply but it got it and it still misbehaves.... so i dunno what to do

if you have the same problem as me, just unscrew the side of your pc so that you can see inside, then take a small fan, put it next to the pc facing the inside of the pc, and blow away, this keeps ur comp cool
