I got a strange message from tech support:
"As you know your accounts will log in from a different ISP I suggest using a different ISP at your home. Your network test shows a ping time of well over 200ms. For a standard online game connection you need to have your ping time under 200ms."
First, I DON'T know that I will log in from a different ISP. What does that mean? I only have one isp. Does this person mean IP address I wonder?
Second, what do I do to get under 200ms? Any suggestions? I am lost.

They havent a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing clue what theyre talking about.......
They are asking you to change your internet service provider?? WTF IS THAT ADVICE?
One. Your not going to pay a migration fee just to change isp to satisfy them RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs.
Two. The problem is their side.
Three. If your ping to the auth server was 200 it would still be connecting to the server, which in this case it is not.
Four. THEY INDICATE DIAL-UP USERS CAN FLAWLESSLY USE GUILD WARS. 56k modems frequently ping over 200ms.
Absolute TOSS.
FIVE - I want their job because they are not sufficiently qualified.

Brought myself to emailing them....
I come representing myself and a few other of the guild wars guru community.
Like hundreds of other guild wars players i am recieving the 058 error and cannot login.
I have run many diagnostics tests and everything is fine my side.
I am unable to connect to auth1.arenanetworks.com via port 80
HOWEVER i am able to connect to:
file1.arenanetworks.com
diag.arenanetworks.com
Both Via port 80.
The problem is on your side.
This problem is the same for many guild wars players, i have a forum full of people with the same problem, all starting in the same week, and they had no previous problems connecting to guild wars.
Your support staff have been telling them allsorts, ranging from changing their ip range to CHANGING THEIR ISP?
I have re-installed many times, deleted my .dat file, let it update many times, even over night, i can update guild wars in a matter of minutes because i am on 40meg connection. whatever i try nothing works.
I remind you again the problem is not client side, unless it is an issue with your guild wars software that a recent patch has caused.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Exciting news from GW tech support! After 4 days of not being able to play, I get this email:
"We thank you for your inquiry. We are escalating your petition to a Senior Technical Support Representative to further assist you. Once they have reviewed your inquiry someone will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
Regards,
Guild Wars Tech Support"
Now at last I will get the senior tech support reason why my computer is obviously too screwed up to play. I am waiting with excitement...still waiting...any minute now.....hello?........

Hooray! Hopefully this is a step in the right direction Dub. I have been in contact with GW support for two and a half weeks and have seen no such reply. Please keep us posted on any possible fixes.
And Matthew, I hope your email gets into the right hands. I want my GW!

THANKS for doing that. I was able to log in and play for abt. 40 min last night, then I lagged out and could not reconnect. Strangely enough, I ran the gw diagnostic abt 30 min prior to that.

Wepeee !! I am looking forward to the Factions Preview Event! Hopefully, they'll get this fixed before friday! Arr got to get my GW streaming because my file is only 1,27 GB... Anyways, hoping to get my GW back... Or we could do something called... um... How do we say that in english arr...(I am normally talking in french...) RECOURS COLLECTIF!!!(Dunno how to say that in english) Was supposed to work flawlessy with 56kb/s and it seems it isn't! And I don't want to change ISP to get GW to work damn it!(Thought i would want broadband or DSL, it costs too much...)
Still hoping...*Not for much longer i fear...*

Is anyone else getting really sick of not being able to play GW? I feel so helpless. I've also tried everything you guys have posted and still nothing. Support obviously has no idea what's going on due to the lack of comunication. I can only hope THEY solve the problem cause I'm fresh out of ideas?

Omg i think im going to flip.
My reply:
Hello Mathew,
Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars Customer Support. Your description of the problem seems to indicate a conflict with one of your installed Firewall/Security Programs. When there is a new Patch released for Guild Wars, the file “Gw.exe” can be changed in size and checksum. If your firewall is specifically set up to allow access to the internet for the file “Gw.exe”, it can occur, that your Firewall/Security Program doesn’t recognize the “new” and changed “Gw.exe” anymore.
We would suggest you to reset the settings of your Firewall in regards to this particular file. This should resolve the issues you are encountering. If it does not, please let us know and we will work with you further to resolve the issue.
If this doesn't solve the problem you are experiencing, we would like to ask you to provide us with as much information as you can about your current set-up.
-What type of connection are you using (Dial-up, broadband, cable, etc)?
-Who is your service provider (AOL, NTL, Zen, etc)?
-Are you using a router?
-If so, what is the exact model description?
-Are you running any anti-virus or firewall software, and if so, what are the names of their providers (Norton, Black Ice, etc) and are they configured correctly?
-Are you doing anything in particular when you receive the error, or are you doing nothing specific?
We will then further try to resolve this problem with you.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team
How can they reply that when i stated 3 times in my question that the problem IS NOT MY SIDE?

This question is useful as it could determine whether or not you were munching on chips and salsa while playing which is strictly prohibited in the eula.

Lets get this straight.
Everyone who has a problem put down all the info they ask for. Per say, I have
Comcast (ISP)
Motorola Surfboard Modem
No router
I use Window Firewall
Avast! Anti-Virus
and no I'm doing nothing.
IF THERE NOT GOING TO SOLVE THIS THEN WE ARE!
