Um... Starting Armor and Really Slow Downloads
Ok, I logged on a few minutes ago and found that my character was wearing the starting armor. The problem is, I'm not wearing sarting armor with my character. I'm just thinking it's a mistake right now, because it stills show my correct level and that I'm in Bloodstone Fen. Now i'm trying to play as that character and it's taking forever to load the map. Before I logged on, the game sort of re-installed itself , but it's done that before and nothing strange like this happens. It's been about ten minutes and i'm still 0% downloaded at Fen. Is there a serious problem here, or does this just happen sometimes?

I just read that there was a massive update and that's what's causing all the problems. Is that true?

So in the 4 minutes between your posts you managed to look around the fora and find out what was happening? Kind of defeats the object of your original post.

I read something about using an image or something like that. What's that all about?

If you have a decent connection then you could add the -image switch at the end of your Guild Wars shortcut. This will force GW to download and de-compress all files, thus doing away with the need to wait inbetween zones.
Click here for explanation if you're not sure how to.
As for the armour, that's perfectly OK. Just leave GW on the selection screen for a few minutes and it'll be fine. Or if you do the -image switch it should be OK straight away.

your best bet is just to go to the login screen and let it download as it is about 500 MB
do something else while it downloads

Ok, what is happening is normal, as been said it is in preparation for the nightfall preview event, there is nothing wrong, just that it is a very long download, they were alot who experienced errors in game, but an update seems to have fixed that.
