Default High settings at 1024x768??

Hi.

I am upgrading from a fx5200 to a X1300 PCI (Non Express) and am just wanting to know if I will be able to play with everything maxd out? Specs:

Processor: P4 Based Celeron 2.6Ghz
Ram: 512MB
Graphics: FX5200 - Going to be X1300 PCI
OS: XP Home SP2

I am currently getting around 24 - 30 FPS at 800x600 in DX8 with some settings no high and some on Low. I am hoping to crank all settings on High with the Res on 1024x768 with 4X aa and 4X af in DX8 with at least a FPS of around 50+??

On paper, yes full settings at that res is possible with your set-up. However, me personaly I'd stick another 512MB stick of RAM in there too.

50fps? I don't know, you'll get a constant 30 which is smooth gameplay but 50 I just can't say.

ok thanks because it is basically for GW and CS:S, 30FPS constant is good enough for me. I have an X360 so iam used to it :P

The problem is going to be the fact that it is a PCI card. PCI has much lower bus speeds then AGP or PCIe. Because of this, you will likely run into "bus crunch" when you are running with a lot of things turned on. This will result in low FPS and sluggish performance.

I would recommend leaving Anti-aliasing turned off. Try it with everything else turned to high. If you still have sluggish performance, then turn down things like reflections. These tend to have the lowest impact on the game visuals.

I have a 9550 myself, but have not upgraded because my system only has AGP. I could go to an X1600 myself, but the concerns of bus crunch have prevented me from spending the extra money for one. I am just waiting until early next year when I can get a newer system with PCIe.

CS:S should run fine, for an online only FPS it's surprisingly easy on the system. Although I'm having problems at the moment, the server selection screen freezes my system. The thing is, it's only that game everything else like FEAR, BF2, BF2142, LOMAC etc. all run fine with no problems.

The problem is not on your card.

What kind of monitor are you using? LCD screens have native resolutions that's the maximum they can display at.

I really doubt you'll be able to run 4X AA with that card.

I'm playing with:
P IV 3,0
256MB 6800
1024MB
windows XD home SP2
I used to play 1600x1200 to the maxx, with really good FPS, now I play 1024x768 to the maxx because my screen broke down with infiniteish FPS. My system isn't that far above yours, so my guess is it's very possible

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -pref

Put this in your shortcut on your desktop
If you have saved in the same place i do, just right click the icon, click properties, hilight the "target" text, and replace it with this. or just add the [space-pref] to the end, like i have it written above
the FPS will display in the top right side in little inconspicious text
