Computer exploded... there were no survivors.
Lol it didn't explode that's just to get your attention. I do need help with a very serious problem though.
I am pretty sure something happened to my computer's registry, and I posted a while ago on here about it but didn't get many replies and so I just decided to ignore it. Here is some history:
Months ago I bought a new DVD drive for my computer from Best Buy. I put it in and installed the software, but it came with a bunch of bundled media player crap and converted all my mp3's to a different format so I wanted a new one. I uninstalled it and got a refund and bought another one from newegg for a lot cheaper. Problem was when I put this new one in, the computer couldn't recognize any drivers for it... big problem. I did some research and found that some software that comes with these drives, does not properly remove it's self from the registry when uninstalled wich will cause problems when you try to use a different drive... I also found a patch that claimed to fix this problem, and it did. As soon as I merged it into the registry the computer now recognized the drive and it worked fine.
Later, I found that for some reason whenever I tried to play a CD in the drive and play guildwars at the same time, the computer would freeze up, and I would have to manually reboot. This I attributed to something wonky in that patch, and was what I posted about on here. I never ended up resolving this.
Now, the situation has grown much more dire. Whenever I load a new instance in guildwars, my sytem crashes and reboots it's self.(although the initial load seems to go ok... twice I was able to log in, form a party of henches, but once I entered a mission it crashed) When I log on again I get a message that says "This system as recovered from a serious error..."
So... any ideas? This may or may not related to that patch I merged a while ago, but it's the only thing I can think of that would tie all these things together. This issue with it crashing once I instance also began a few hours after I installed ventrillo on my computer today, but that may or may not be related.
What I need to know is if you know a specific problem that can be adressed that could be causing this, or if you know how I can find out what the problem is. I don't have restore disks and I don't wana do a restore if I don't have to.
I'm running windos XP btw.
