Im getting freezes when entering a new area, so I know what you mean, and Im thinking theres been a change in the way informations being sent/recieved by the servers, as I havent had this happen untill recently. Im not postive, but it seems likely.

This happens to me a lot more now than before also. For some reason I'm starting to think that I'm loading up all the skills the enemy mob will use against me plus any skills from my party. I also noticed that when in a town, everything will be fine lag-wise, until I run up to a location where a bunch of people are standing, then I'll lag like crazy. Like I'm loading up everyone elses information as well, instead of just their character skins. Kind of hard to explain, but I think it's something happening server side.

Yeah that's happening to me too. Did anyone manage to find out what's causing it and maybe how it could be fixed? It's horrible in Pvp

I've been having this problem since the Factions PvP Preview Event, so I'm all too familiar with the pain. I've noticed that it is more severe the more actual human players are in the instance, which of course leads me to believe that it is in fact an issue of the character information being loaded (though I could of course be wrong). Strangely, I noticed that when I reinstall Windows (over my previous installation, without reformatting my hard drive(s)), the problem disappears for a short period of time, only to resurface after I have played for about a week or so.
If there's any known fix for it, or any information regarding what causes it, it'd be nice for the details to be released to the community. I've personally tried every performance tweaking option on these and other forums (short of purchasing new hardware), and nothing works as of yet.

I had the same issues however for me it was guild wars conflicting with my services, after going through all the applications on services.msc and changing them around to match my laptop(which did not have the above problems), my main computer now works just fine and no first battle lag or major lag anymore, i still have minor lag when it comes to major cities with loads of people but now i am able to play. That stupid first battle lag has caused me to lose sole survivor title twice.
And just to clarify i would not go tinkering around in your services.msc unless you are using a resource to help you or know what you are doing. There are certain processes you should not disable, and there are a couple you do not want enabled for security reasons.

Could you give us a guide or a list of what to change? If it worked for you it might work for the rest of us too.

Id say its loading up the animation and such data which the game should have during the loading sequence. Its really annoying I know.

Not sure if this is a fix or not, but I tried optimizing my pagefile a bit the other day, and it seems to have somewhat cleared up. Since I'm running a system off 512mb of ram I adjusted the minimum size to 1.5 X 512 = 768 and adjusted to maximum to either the same or slightly more, like 1024 (supposed to be 3X). May or may not have something to do with it since the recommended on the nightfall box is up to 1gig of RAM instead of the old recommended of 512.
Could of been just an update however that I wasn't aware of, but the lag has been a lot less when initiating the first battle in explorable areas. I figure with a tighter pagefile, the less resizing it would need to do on more RAM intensive situations. Could be wrong though. Probably just have to upgrade to a gig of RAM eventually, but I'm kind of lazy.

i have the same problem..almost every time i get itno a fight...i start lagging massively and moving 1 frame at a time ...then im dead. I have my game settings on lowest possible too. I know theres not a RAM problem with my comptuer cause my husband runs EQ2 on the same system and has absolutely no lag problems there.
