Cough Cough... AMD's Hmm...You see I still disagree about AMD, but I also had AMD's before this Intel. My last ASUS motherboard with AMD XP CPU bit the dust do to a little glitch it didn't take a beating. Gotta watch Gigabyte though for motherboards they can be touchy. But my ABIT is nice and smooth no problems yet with the same 2.4gig cpu and my free floating fan from my Gigabyte board. As for the XP line I never really saw anything special about them. I know that I had come across an article that said they were under power and some of the timing was off. Something about bus speeds.

Nah, the manufacturer is Albatron. The only problem I've had with it is with the on board NIC. It's far to sensitive to line noise, and it reports being disconnected every 5 or 10 seconds. I had to use a PCI Ethernet adapter.

Try a line filter maybe that will clean it up... FYI if you have dsl you need 2 line filters... Unless you use a filter on the DSL line....

This is not spam, but ummm... do you have a license for that rig, sir?!
I'm actually enjoying reading these posts as I'm shopping for a new computer, about $1600.00. Any suggestions, anyone? And not some custom built jobber that will take too long to get to me. And I'd like something portable. ... good gaming laptop. Suggestions?

I agree that the general user doesn't need to know (probably... but knowledge is power). But how do you get that your VGA's will take most of the hit? The CPU has to process the data before it gets to the VGA... I agree with you except it can be misleading. Just tring to keep from "I've got a 450MHz w/ a 128MP GeForce 6800GT and the game is all laggy"

P.S. Wow, Drizzt, do you not think they've hit a block with how small they can go? And your numbers are really loos Virt, 5Mhz is equal to 5x10^6 cycles per second, or 5 cycles per microsecond. Didn't know if that was intentional, just trying to make sure that people undestand.

I'm glad you appreciate the rig, but $1600? sure i'll sell you mine for $1600. I think over the last 2.5 years I have spent $1200 or so on this thing. Little bits at a time, but my chip is over 2 and a half years old. I want a 1600Mhz FSB 3.0Ghz with the 12Gig of ram I saw parts for online..............
Ahh the beauty of waiting till the technology comes down in price. If you want some advice go to tigerdirect.com they have a great online resource for putting together a system. Also, get the best motherboard you can and fill it with memory.
BTW I just replaced my powersupply with a SP? 400W with a 120mm fan and my temp dropped 10 degrees. That was worth every penny of the $27 I spent.

Check out this post of mine. It answers your question pretty well.

Yeah, it was intentional. Just trying to make things a little easier on people. I dunno about everyone else, but when I see numbers like 5x10^6 describing something I know very little about I get a little confused. Thanks for the information, though.

I have a 2.2 Gig p4 processor
512mb ddr ram
geforce 4 ti 4600
Got this pc about 2-3 years ago. It works great with Guild Wars even though graphics card is far from top of the line, but im planning to build a new pc in the summer anyway for FPS games...

I have a:
AMD Athlon64 3200+
Asus K8V SE DX Motherboard
Club3D ATi Radeon X800 Pro
1024 MB RAM (Kingston)
160 GB Harddisk (Western Digital)
Audigy 2 soundcard
Antec P160 case (aluminium, perfect for LAN-parties!)
19" Iiyama monitor (horrible for LAN-parties! ;p)
Razer Viper as a mouse (probaply most sensitive mouse ever made, a bit small though ;\) with a Steelpad 4D for grip (Viper works on very few surfaces, but no mouse can compare to a Viper on a steelpad - no mouse at all)
A 6.1 Surround Sound system from Creative
And a Speedlink Multimedia headset (which simulates surround sound & is very comfortable)
Then there's the best part:
A DVD player that won't open (not even with emergency eject) ;\

Just built this system a few weeks ago:
AMD 64 3000+
MSI Neo4 Plat M/B
1 gig Corsair matched pair Ram
MSI 6600gt Graphics
200 gig seagate 7200.8 Hard Drive
Wraped in a Antec aluminum (sp. ) case w/400 watt true power PS
I have been enjoying it since I came from an AMD K6-2 500 with 192 Mb Ram. This will be my first BWE that I can actually play. I have been with Guild Wars since the WPE in October but I could just use it as a high end chat client.
Can’t wait and hope to see you all there.

well lets see
cheaper
more efficient per clock
fastest AMD beats fastest current extreme edition intel cpu
thats a few right there
i use them for best bang for buck
however i dont go around yelling go AMD
there are lots of them because the people who build their own pcs made a choice
there is room for all
even intel
