Very Slow Downloading? (PROBLEM SOLVED)
I just recentley bought a pretty decent computer.
I installed GW which took forever, then I started it up, and when I went to log on to one of my Chars. It came up with the usual loading city screen. It was at 0% and had 9.2k files left to download. I let it stay for a few minutes and nothing had changed. It would however bounce back from 20kb/sec, up to 126kb/sec. This never happened on my old pc, this one is on the same internet connection and everything. I really dont know whats wrong.
Any help/suggestions on what could be the problem here will be appreciated.
Some specs-
2.8Ghz cpu (dual cpus)
2gigs ram
Nvidia 7300 gfx card with 512mb memory.
If you need to know any others, post.
Thanks-
Z S N

There is an major update going on at the moment... servers are somewhat loaded to capacity. Wintersday Update!!!
If you still have your old GW.dat file copy it to the new computer so then you don't have to download as much.

Meh, you seem bright, jimmy_logic. I have factions just got it. I didn't know I didn't have to install the factions cd if I already had the prophecies one installed. So I did that, then I plugged in my factions key to link it with prophecies. Ok, well while I was playing factions I can get as far as sunqua vale. the moment I step outside, maybe a step or two, I get d/c. and it is saying that a serious error occurred. I tried reinstalling, didn't work. Tried getting the client off the website didn't work...However, it said it was doing a data repair at one time, so I was worried that the factions copy that I bought or whatever was busted >.<
Also, urm..My cpu crashed once before, so the video card isn't supported by this hardrive because my cousin removed the one that came with the cpu, and put in a different one. Yea... Also, I'm using a Windows XP right now, Home Edition. It's Intel(R), Pentium(R), 4 CPU 1500MHz, 1.49 GHz, 512MB of RAM. Also, my C: has a capacity of 15.60 GB, and 5.39 GB Free space, which is 34% free space....could that be the problem? So would getting a new cpu like allow me to play factions with no problem, despite the whole data repair issue and what not?

Wrong place? Maybe you should have started a new thread, instead of posting it here.
(Not intended to be flame)
@Jimmy Logic, I'll try to get on a little later, maybe not as many people trying to get on GW.

Now, we'd be happy to help but could you clarify that please? What do you mean by your graphics card isn't supported by the HDD?

He probably meant his main computer box itself. Having worked in tech support for many years, I can't count the number of times I have had people refer to their main PC "box" as the "hard drive".
Followed closely by the people who, when asked their model of computer, say the name on the monitor.

use the command -image to download and decompress all files. leave your computer on over night and you'll have it running smooth in the morning.

Thanks! I think this is what I'm looking for. But, could you explain this a little more please? I'm not quite sure what command-image is. I think this could be the fix though.

Image downloads EVERYTHING, othervise you download & decompress new towns & such when you enter them.
Guildwars (gw.exe) switches explains what more commands there are.

Ok, I think I get this whole -image thing. Could someone let me know how big the download is? How many Gigs? And, how long it will take.
And, will I be able to download faster after the Wintersday event is gone? If so, I'm not going to do -image. I dont mind missing wintersday too much.

I ran the -image tag, and let it download (took 10 hrs. lol). And now, I'm enjoying Guild Wars, and my recent addition Nightfall, very very smoothly. Thank you to everyone that helped me, especially Jimmy Logic, without you guys, I still might be doing nothing.
Thanks again-
