My freind has purchased the game (factions) and put in CD 1, as normal. He explained to me that it connects to Anet downloads then tries to reconnect to Anet and fails stating, there was a connection error with the internet and to check the internet or try again later. Its been a while since I installed mine so my help was limited. I checked some other forums for help, no luck. I checked his internet and video card no problems there and there more then sufficient (rogers and nvidea). Was wondering if anyone knew the problem.

Firewall could be blocking it. Allow Guild Wars full web access in the program control centre of whatever firewall he's using.

Tried that. Once again no luck. I also told him to put internet security on low, turn off all programs in the background, check his internet cables and make sure his PC was compatable again. No luck. Its still saying"Unable to connect to Anet make sure your internet is running or try again in a few minutes." Hope someone knows the problem.

I had the same problem twice and it only got fixed by a game update(twice).
And twice was right after my game was unable to detect a patch even though there was one, i would really like to know why too
