Recently I have noticed a lot of posts on Lag and the problems that players are having with it. Here are a few things that I have done that have fixed most of my problems:

1 lower the graphics settings within Guild Wars (This seems to help the players with Nvidea cards more than Ati cards).
2 Lower the sound setting to fastest and turn off Hardware acceleration (this has been posted on before)
3 Make sure that there are no other applications running that are not neccesary for your computer and Guild Wars to run (the more applications running the worse the lag can get).
4 Turn off automatic updates on all applications that have it (Anti-virus, firewall, windows, and all other apps that have this feature).
5 Defragment your hard drive (puts your files in order so that your computer doesn't have to search for them).
6 Run anti-spyware and anti-malware programs on a schedule (once a week or more often works, doing this can root out anything that the system doesn't see running in the background).
7 Keep all of your computers drivers up to date.
8 Upgrade your computers main ram to the most that you can afford and the most that your computer can handle (the more ram that you have the happier that Windows seems to be, and Guild Wars likes a lot of ram also).
9 For DSL and Cable internet users unplug your modems power for at least 1 minute then plug it back in (this makes the modem reset its internal memory and refreshes the IP address).

These suggestions have and do work for me, anyone with anything else to add feel free to.

The problem is with Anet's server.. My pc is Intel E6600 Gigabyte 965Mobo, 2GB Corsair DDR800, PNY 8800GTS+Creative X-Fi Gamer. I am on a 3MB DSL and i am not downloading anything. I am getting massive lag whenever i log on GW. I even called my ISP to find out what happened. Their tech told me it is the gamer server's problem... Man Anet need to upgrade their servers.. or end this winterday thing..

A couple other things o check out:
Make sure that your Ethernet cables are plugged in all the way.
Same goes for your dial-up modems cables, please make sure they are plugged in all the way.
For DSL users,
Make sure that you have the telephone and modem plugged into the right spots in the filter.
Make sure that all phones in your house have a filter on them
Make sure that the filters are good (a bad filter can cause lag)

If you still have problems with DSL have your phone lines checked to make sure that there is not too much noise on them (too much noise can cause D-cons and bad lag also)
If you run an Uninteruptable Power Supply (battery backup, and I hope that most of yall do) ensure that it doesn't interfere with the DSL or Cable signal, some will filter out the internet signals inadvertantly.

More fixes that have happened to me.
Check all of the cables going from your computer to all things attached to it. Pets and even vermin have a bad tendacy to chew on stuff (my cat chewed through my ethernet cable) and can cause havoc with your computer.
Check your ethernet cable's on occasion to make sure they are not bad (several manufacturers include a testing utility with their products), a bad cable is just as bad as not beign connected.
On cables check all of the ones connecting to your computer (this is just good practice). Make sure they are not frayed broken or just not looking so good.
Replace any cable that even looks bad even if it may not be.
New cables can be bad right out of the bag so do not asume that just because it is new it isn't the problem.

Power supplies can also cause a myrad of problems so make sure the one you have has enough wattage to handle your computer (Enermax has a nice utility that will calculate the minimum ammount of watts that your computer needs to run smoothly).
