Vista and eVGA 7900 GT KO
I installed Vista (don't say anything, I had an extra HDD around) and then first went to DL the new drivers from nVidia, 97.46. Ever since, I have been getting frequent graphical glitches upon leaving the computer idle. I ran DXDiag and it says that I have DX10 installed.. But I know my card isn't capable, Can someone help me get back on DX9 so I can do things again?
System: C2D e6300, 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800, 256MB eVGA 7900GT KO

the only way to get back to DX9 is to go back to XP... Vista will not support DX9, as DX10 has a DX9 API within it, but will not take the main version of DX9
Remember however, that Vista was only actually released for the general public today, so its going to be a few days at least until issues are sorted out by all the card companies...
Is your copy of Vista retail? oh, and do you still have your copy of XP?
Oh, another quick note aswell, that driver set for your graphics card only works with the Vista build 6000 or above, so if your using build 5600 or 5900 or lower, then the drivers won't work and you'll need an earlier driver set fromt he archives

Thanks for the help, I guess it is time to find another possibility for the problems.
I sent you a PM

No worries, although remember, its retail release date was only today, so I'd give it at least a week before we see updates for things like thise start to filter through

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64, and the glitch I was talking about occurs when I try to open GW. Could it be a problem due to GW not supporting the 64bit architecture or GW not supporting the inline DX9?

I actually had that issue on the x64 version of Vista RC1... It's probably a driver issue

You might want to try the new 100.54 drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_100.54.html
I haven't installed them to my Vista machine yet, but will likely do so tonight.

Thanks... I downloaded the 97.46 yesterday so I guess I just missed the release.

Well i'm having no issues whatsoever with vista, i'm staying well clear of the nvidia drivers until they fix them, the generic drivers work just great.
EDIT - i'm using a 7800gs(agp) and although it's not DX10 capable, it runs fine as it is, maybe I was lucky.

Hello all! I am curious what you guys think about these articles?
Where are my NVIDIA Drivers for Vista?
"NVIDIA not being ready for DX10, Vista, and SLI is a low blow to enthusiasts and gamers that spend the big bucks, and they will remember that for a while
“World-class support” should be a minimum expectation, not just a marketing tag line
http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/...WFzdA==
Logitech, Creative, NVIDIA driver disgrace
"Guess that Vista upgrade is just going to have to wait -- either that, or I upgrade my hardware to something compatible and vow never to buy Logitech, Creative or NVIDIA ever again!"

As I said in my previous post, I am not having any problems with Vista.
My Logitech G15 keyboard is using the vista drivers, from Logitech, my G5 mouse did not need any drivers,(and yes all the buttons work), i'm sure a driver package wil be released, but at the minute it works great.
The only problem i am having is sometimes the screen gets a little graphical issue, kind of like a rolling affect on the screen it's very minute and corrects itself after 5 minutes or so.
All in all I love it, as soon as nvidia release proper drivers my life will be complete or I buy an new ATI card.......

D3D10 all new and there really isn't much more D3D9 in it than there is OpenGL.
However Vista fully supports DX9. In fact the entire Aero interface is written in DX9, not DX10. There is even a new version of D3D9, 9Ex which is Vista specific and can not be used on XP.
You can take any old 32bit D3D 9.0c title from XP and run it in 64bit Vista on your 7800 or 8800 just fine.

I'm sure i said that... Anyway, DX10 actually incorporates OpenGL1.4 aswell (although why they didn't add OpenGL2 i have no idea, but at least it does now)

Re-tried with Vista, new drivers on a x86 version (same hardware.) Works in windowed mode, but I get corrupted purple-y streaky graphics and no game screen in Full Screen (both Aero and Classic themes.) Anyone have any ideas?

Remove the Nvidia Drivers and go with the drivers that come with Vista, Nvidia still haven't gotten the drivers working right, but the ones that are built in with Vista work fine so far
