Dude the exact same thing is happening to me. No matter how many times i put in the key code, it says its wrong. I dont know what the hell i'm suppost to do now either. Two of my friends already got the game and i don't think they ran into this problem. I send in question regarding the key code being invalid but all they gave me back was a lot of B.S. that didn't help. This is pissing me off so freaking bad.

go so Guild Wars Support create a support account, and submit a ticket. To the best of my knowledge this is the only contact source for Guild Wars.
Also when you rubbed the gel off the CD Key inside the CD Jacket, make sure all 1's are ones and not I's or vice versa, 6's sometimes look like G's. and the 5's can look like S's. The CD Key validation is not forgiving, while the printing process can have it's issues.

Allright this time go sit at a desk, take your CD-box and encrypt the key. Just write down what you see, you might put on some glasses.
Believe me, if you take the time for it you'll be able to sort it out.

Most of the time just try changing around some letters / numbers. Their l33t printer mistypes sometimes. I had a S that looked like a 5. Had to get in close to see the little cornor properly.

I have had the game for a week and can't get the $$$$$ing cd key to work. I am not a novice at this and have never had this problem before. E-mailed support but answer is no help at all. Called Gamestop, where I bought it, but they basically said tough shit. I'm ready to use this thing as a frisbee. Any ideas???????

I had the same exact problem with the cdkey. It's very hard to tell the 8's from the 6's(I had to put a glass on top of it to be able to tell).
I'd go back and check all of the 8's and make sure they're not 6's.

Calm down! Big breath!
Ok now.
Some questions... When you say you can't get it to work, do you mean its already in use, or you just can't plain install the program?
There might just be something really weird with the numbers. If they are too scrambled then there could be a lot of codes to try.
Serafita Kayin offered to "decode" any problems like this if you trust him enough to do so.
There should be no chance that there was a 'bad' key printed during the release, so its only natural human error. 5 = S, 7 = T, E = 3, g = 9, 2 = R, 1 = I / L.
As you can tell from the thread above, your not alone with this problem. Yes, they should have printed it larger or offered an easier way to gain your key, but this is one of the safest ways since you will know right away if someone has scraped away the grey stuff.
Can't offer you much more help then that, again, if you want to contact Serafita Kayin and ask him to do you a favor, it couldn't hurt.

Yeah, I'll help as much as I can.
if you can get a decent pic of the key, I may can help you out.
Their printing process is suboptimal, but i can often make out imprints that make the difference, just from studying old manuscripts and carvings when I did my theology coursework. But, diclaimer, I'm not infallible. I can't raise the dead myself, nor can I create CD keys from thin air. I just offer to help.

I had the same problem myself. I entered the key numerous times until i realized whatever font they used, should be retired.
However, the problem wasnt the key, it was me.

Just received an e-mail from GuildWars customer service. They gave me the correct key (9 should have been a 3) and once I input this, it worked great. I would never have known this by looking at the key. They obviously should have used a different font for the key as this has been a problem for many people. Good luck all.

Faction CE Key - Possible assistance for others
I am updating this thread in hopes that someone will get help from this, as it took me some time to figure out what was happening.
I bought a Factions CE to upgrade one of my accounts, and entered the key about 40 times. I put a call in to customer service, and continued to work on the key. Everything was legible and clear on the key, so why isn't the key working??
After carefully looking at a scanned copy of the key code (the one I sent to ANet), I noticed something. At the bottom of what I thought were O's (the letter capital O), was a small blemish, and i do mean blemish.. I'll try to include a screen shot of the letter. I got to thinking, and thought.. what else could this be.. Well, I replaced all of the 'O's with 'Q's and ACCEPTED!!! OMG!!
I dont know if this has something to do with the ribbon on the printer (i would assume they are using laser, so a toner cartrige would be more appropriate), but the printer did not print the bottom part of the 'Q's.
In my key, there were 3 of these 'O's.. Look at the picture of the O's I am including.. One of them doesn't even have the blemish.
I hope this helps someone, as its been 2 days, and no response from ANet, even after I have told them they can close this.
