Default I think my comp lacks an animation?

I noticed a problem with my Paragon's emotes. I can do /dance, but when I do some other ones (/sit for example) my character does not move. The camera just sinks down, though, which is what happens when I sit on another character. The funny thing is she does the /boo animation a few seconds later.

I know it's a problem with my computer, because when I tried doing /sit on the same character on my brother's computer, it displayed the animation correctly. I could also do the animations I couldn't.

I'm guessing that my computer has a corrupted data file. Is that possible? If it is, how can I fix it? Please tell me I don't have to reinstall GW

could be that :
1) your instalation is corrupt, execute GW.exe --image to redownload the entire guildwars client from scratch,
2) your brothers machine is more powerfull and some features are disabled at yours to mantain performance,

reinstalling guildwars is something you have to get pass trough, you dont want me to tell you to reinstall guildwars, then i have little solutions for you,
bt, GW.exe --image is more or less a reinstall (erases the data file and downloads all the game data from scratch)

Is the only way to fix the installation with the --image thing? Or can I delete the GW.dat file and reinstall it like that?

Also, my brother's comp isn't more powerful. His gets 12 FPS average, mine gets 60. And it's my comp that runs Oblivion, not his :P

If the only way to do a full reinstall is with --image, is there a place where I could get detailed instructions on how to do it?

It's easy to run a -image,

just right click on a guild wars shortcut and click properties. in the target line under the shortcut tab add a <space>-image. It should look like this...

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

the <space> is an actual space. then click apply and double click on the shortcut. The gray guild wars download window will appear and the files will download.

After you have finished, remove the -image, click apply and play the game as per usual.

might want to let this run right before you go to sleep too. the full image download can take quite a while.

be sure to degrag your hard drive afterwards too.

You can reinstall to give yourself a head start, but you'll be downloading a large patch regardless, because a lot of new content has been released since the CD was pressed. That content will be downloaded in-game or via -image. The advantage of using -image is that you can get it all done in one shot, and the game will automatically exit when its finished patching.

Oh, and don't forget to repair and defrag your disk before re-installing (via the Windows system tools).

Good luck!

Thumbs up

I had the same problem. It was just some of my emotes, not all. I tried what aecum suggested, and ran -image. That did not help. I ended up uninstalling Guild Wars completely, defragging, and re-installing Guildwars. It works fine now /cheer

Running -image doesn't wipe your gw.dat file and re-create it, so chances are if there was corruption in the file it will still be there after you run the -image. You have a few options:
  • Delete your gw.dat file and run the game. It will re-build the gw.dat file as you need it (slow).
  • Delete the gw.dat file and run the -image overnight. This is slow (depending on connection speed), but you'll end up with a nice, clean, complete gw.dat file.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the game. This is a bit faster than the above two, especially if you install from the Nightfall CD.

It all depends on the speed of your system and the speed of your internet connection.

On average I'd guess 10-30 mins for the initial install and then 10-20 for the initial patches on a broadband connection. That's if you just install and run and don't do the -image. It's really going to vary a lot depending on your system and internet connection.
