Horrific Patch Download Times
I've played Guild Wars for over 2 years now and never have I experienced the ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL patch download times that I am now getting since the network change announced July 17th. I've downloaded the entire game to computers on different ISPs and it has never been as slow as it is now! Is it just me or is this happening for others also?

Took about 10 minutes for me. It was a big update. Meh, whatever - it's not like it happens every half an hour.
I'm more concerned with the fact that the "network change" announced today hasn't made a jot of difference to the appalling lag I'm currently getting in-game.

I say just do something else for a while (non-gw) and let Anet work until things are sorted out, because it is a bit unplayable at the moment.

Mine took a long time as well...it's still doing it as we speak. I thought it might have been because of my use of the "-image" tag but I guess not. Seems like they restructured a mission and made some decent interface changes though...along with the expected network updates. I wish they would have split them up though.

it was a tiny download, 2 mins on 1500k connection.
and its nothing like installing the game on another computer now, download the game takes about 3 hours if you've only just gotten the game.

I'm using the -image command to download all the files.

Just run an image update, it will be faster and more efficient then trying to play the game while having such a large update go on in the background.
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
Otherwise you are just being a glutton for punishment.

No it isn't faster. I have a shortcut with -image just for instances where large patches are added so I can download and decompress them right then. Normally when I download from the GW servers I get anywhere from 150Kbps to 500kbps. Anything over the first number is fine with me. I've watched -image sit there for fifteen minutes so far only peaking over 100Kbps for a few second here and there, and mainly staying around 50Kbps. I've gotten 8% of the patch so far. Had I known they were going to patch today I wouldn't have spent an hour yesterday rebuilding my dat file, which only took 1 hour to download. Something is WRONG!
It's been about 2 minutes since I looked at the GW download screen, I'm sitting at 9% now!

Yes it is still slow, but not slower, and much better than having it impact game play, IMO. So, seems more efficient to me.
My -image is at 27% at the moment, I prefer waiting to get in and play the game versus having to face individual long load screens while in the game.

It's a big update, and because many players are downloading the servers may have a hard time for the moment.
I would suggest to run guldwars with the -image switch and let it download everything in the background while you do other things.

Well according to wiki, the 1st new update total size is 500mb+, the 2nd one is a lot smaller. Also a lot of people are downloading it right now, I got my lastnight so I'm ok. The log in download should be around 8mb after that it will be background download and when you jump to a new town. I'm on 12meg line so it wasn't to bad.
The -image is a good alternative to background DL, just read a book or something for now.

Wow, I only had a 2 minute download, I had 6mbs on the load, and 30 inside the game. It was pretty quick.

a -image was about 500 MB. I didn't want all that background streaming and load screen delays going on while I play.

Apparently people don't realize that when there are a lot of people downloading the same file, that there is less bandwidth and thus downloads are slower for everyone.
