If you got a new Heatsink, it should come with it. It is NOT recommended to run it without.

Unless you like your processor toasty and dead, then do it. Other than that, wait.

It's called thermal paste or thermal grease, it's there to help fill any small gaps between the CPU and the heatsink to improve heat transfer, and you should NOT turn the computer on without some of it between the two.

The CPU will likely idle a good ten degrees Celsius hotter without any thermal interface material, and is likely to crash (or burn out) pretty fast once it's actually used for something.

are you using AMD OR INTEL?

are you meaning ARCTIC *FREEZER 64 PRO* to be exact

if it is an intel proc unless they changed it recently you have to replace the backing plate to fit it which means remove MB as well

i am using 2 of them and on the AMD it snaps on fast and easy.

30 seconds to install on fresh proc

Yeah, getting that second side down is more often than not a real pain. My cooler is just like yours. You cannot just expect it to slip on easily all the time. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't get some of the clips right. Like Loviatar said, his went on easily. You might not have been as lucky.

Just don't try to force it on, take your time, and it will go on just fine.

does 2 hours hours count as taking my time?
i ended up just using the stock fan...i just could take anymore.

so i got it all up...then...the video card was faulty, its in the process of an rma
but
2 weeks before my computer will be up

unless someone has a different way to solve the fact that my computer makes a high pitched screeching noise, when removed the noise goes away...
