I don't know why or how this happns, but I am in GW, and when I move my cursor, it starts to flickering, when I stop my mouse, it disspears alltogether. everything looks fine in window mode where i can see my mouse cursors. nehelp?

oh i had that in all my steam games, annoying as hell. It stopped when i got a new vid card but for now i suggest you update drivers. Btw are you using nvidia or ati?

What computer?
What speed processor?
How much RAM?
What brand and model of video card?

Lastly is it an aftermarket mouse that might, although rare, have it's own drivers? If so they might need updating.

does this problem occur when you are playing nay other games?
I suggest like Sin said, updating mouse drivers if possible, and updating graphics card drivers. If you have another computer or access to another mouse, try pluging that one in and seeing if it has problems. Lastly, lower hte games graphics settings, and see if that makes a difference. Hope this post was helpfull!

I have the exact same problem. My curser vanishes anytime it is sitting still. I have tried 2 different mice including a Logitech Trackball and a Generic optical mouse. I have tried using the latest drivers from logitech and even the WIN XP drivers. I have reinstalled GuildWars twice. I had the problem while using a Radeon 9700 pro and upgraded to an EVGA 6800 and problem still there.

I have all the latest drivers for my entire system including DirecX. I do not have this problem in any other game including RavenShield, Battlefield Vietnam and EQ2 just to name a few. I dont know what else to try, have tried all suggestions here and finally broke down and submitted a Tech Support question to ArenaNet but no answer yet. The curser even vanishes at the log in screen.

My system is as follows: (Home built btw)

2.8 P4
1 Gig PC 2700 Ram
Sound Blaster Audigy
EVGA 6800 NU
480W PSU
WIN XP
Cable internet

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Well hello,

neither of you said much about what kind of mouse you have.

Is it lazer?

Is it USB or serial?

If this is a lazer mouse and you have ' multi colored ' mouse pad. Believe it or not .. this can fool the mouse into thinking it 'moved much farther than it did.'

Try for testing (flip that mousepad over) usually they are alll black.. you may have to secure the pad down with some tape. Likewise, if you want to spend a bit of money .. go out and get a solid colored mousepad, preferably a dark color non reflective.

This could be a sign of virus activity.. check for that.

This could be a sign of some 'process' that is using huge amounts of cpu cycles for short periouds of time. causing the mouse to stutter as it attempts to catch up.

If this is a cheap (literally) mouse, it could be the mouse.

If this is a roller mouse (has the ball on the bottom) try popping it out and cleaning it with 'COLD WATER ONLY' .. anything else will likely break down the rubber on the ball. Dry it well before poppin it back in. Take a q'tip to the inside rollers if you notice they are 'very dirty' again.. use water only. You can follow-up with alcohol on the rollers.. but make sure you blow into the mouse 'ball hole' to make sure those rollers are dry before putting the ball back in.

Well, I am using a Logitech serial trackball mouse. Have tried the latest drivers from them as well.

Have also tested a logitech USB optical mouse with the latest drivers and neither work.

PC is totally virus/addware free and have used the tips and tweaks to shut all background processes totally off.

Sitting here typing this my CPU usage is at 2%.

I have been surfing other forums and seen more people are having the same problems as I am having but so far I havent seen any connection as other people are using different hardware then me so it seems to me to be a client side problem.

How about trying some newer drivers? It appears that a lot more people than me also go to www.guru3d.com. Generally they have drivers newer than the current "official" release.

Just a little update, I ran to Wal-Mart and picked me up a Microsoft Trackball mouse and having the same problem so I dont think it is my mouse. I will try other drivers though, thanks for the link.

Ok, last update, just about to give up. Tried the newest drivers I could find and nothing has helped me, dunno what else to try.

Fixed my problem, thanks for all the replies. I stumbled on my hardware acceleration and seen it was one notch down from full. I turned it all the way up and fixed it.

Hardware excelleration for the video card or .. specifically where do you mean. I only ask because if someone else has the same problem. It may be beneficial to them if you were more specific on what slider and where you .. turned up.

I think he's talking about the slider in the advanced display properties.
Right-click on a blank space on desktop>Properties>Settings. There's a button in the lower right: "Advanced..." Once you're in that you go to performance and slide it all of the way to the right, then save the settings. It's pretty silly not to have it all of the way to the right unless you have some sort of trouble brought on by full acceleration.

The problem comes from hardware accelerated mouse cursors. I have this issue, and I am running a Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo in a Dell Inspiron laptop. All of my games have this issue.

Does anyone know a way to manually override hardware cursors to turn it off?

I've just been having this problem with a new Logitech Mx518 mouse. I appear to have fixed the problem that I had.

I changed the pointer speed in the mouse control panel (which was set at zero) this freaked out my mouse, so I have now set the pointer speed to zero in the mouse control panel and used the Setpoint software to manage the pointer speed and et the software to use Setpoint implementation for speed and acceleration.

The default Speed and Acceleration settings in the Setpoint software seem to be OS implementation, and I am sure that I did try using the Setpoint implementation earlier with no success.

Still after resetting everything as above, it seems to work now.

Hope this helps anyone still receiving this problem.

I think it's application controlled, it may require it, it may use (and give option to turn on / off). No One Lives Forever, for example, had it off by default and I could turn it on. I haven't seen it in the advanced nvidia drivers options (where you tweak to get access to them)

I used to have that problem and it bothered me for weeks. I unchecked the "track mouse cursor" box in Control Panel -> Mouse -> Cursor Options, and it fixed the problem.
