How do you log out without this error?
Every time I log out of guild wars, I hit F12 key, log out, then at the login menu, I hit the "X" at the top right corner of the screen...
However, every time I log out [whether or not I use the above method] and close my GW.exe application
I get the stupid "Repairing Data Archive" bullsh!t. I'm not going to defrag my folder EVERY time I use GW. I only need to defrag it once every 2-3 weeks or so [with my whole computer as well]
Is there a way to log out and then login so that Repairing Data Archive crap isn't popping up 100% of the time?

You should realize this has nothing to do with defragmentation and everything to do the actual gw.dat archive being damaged. Defragmenting the file when this error appears won't do anything for you, because something within the .dat file is seriously borked!
What you need to do is delete the gw.dat file and redownload it. Best thing to do is after deleting it use the -image switch for gw.exe and let it download over night or something, since it is 3 gigs and might take a while.

I've downloaded the whole God Blessed .dat file 4 times...
you heard right 12 GIGS of bandwidth burnt...
I'm NOT downloading it again...
I know it's not a hardware issue either since everything EXCEPT gw.exe runs without crashes and I've stabilized my computer twice... but now...
thanks to what seems to be a new update, it doesn't crash as much but GOD DAMN THAT STUPID 'repairing data archive'...
Garbage...
edit: I've been overclocking for over 3 years now so don't suggest anything that would have to do with hardware settings such as cpu settings, ram timings, etc. It's got nothing to do with my hdd either since it's been scanned for surface errors and bad sectors 2x using 2 different scanning programs... (windows / norton's) the mobo has had no weird burning smells or fried capacitors... you get the idea.
what to do...

Reading your first post made me think its from the HDD since I had that problem everyday. Best Solution I can give you *if it always works* is copy the data file from a friend and see what happens.

That sounds like a good idea.
Unfortunately, the only person I know with easy access to a datafile is my wife but she doesn't have GW:EN or Nightfall...
Do you think copying her datafile and then using the -image parameter (I've got all versions of GW) might help me with this issue?
She hasn't played in a while so I'm guessing she's still missing some updates [quite a few I'd suppose]
Another idea, though cumbersome, would be to just play and let the game 'autodownload' piecewise. It'd be slow as quck loading up with people but I'd guess they'd be used to it or something. [I'm on broadband so it doesn't take THAT long...]

Bad sectors and software scans aren't very good at revealing hard drive failure compared to the hard drive's internal SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data. You might want to download a little tool called HD Tune (it's freeware, google it) and use it to check your hard drive's internal SMART logs. Just run the program and open the Health tab to see the logged data.
The Wikipedia article on SMART should have explanations for the different stats SMART tracks.

My husband had that problem with his game repairing the data archive. His was caused from the bad battery on his motherboard.
And i agree with the lord on the hard drive scan not revealing everything. I keep my system maintainenced regularly and i don't over clock anything and one day "POOF" goes my hard drive. Things can have a failure and cause problems with some programs and some programs can run fine. The repairing data archive that you are getting are caused from some kind of failure to the motherboard, hard drive or RAM. one of those things has a failure now you just have to figure out which one it is.
