Connecting to ArenaNet... Or not.
First off, the obligatory system details that everyone always asks for:
OS: WinXP Professional 5.1 SP2 (Build #2600)
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, 2.21 GHz, 512KB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (1280x1024x32bpp 60Hz)
Sound: Realtek HD Audio output
Memory: Used: 320/768MB
All of that is pretty much irrelevant.
As the title implies, I am stuck at the "Connecting to ArenaNet..." portion of starting Guild Wars. After attempting to re-install, I am plagued by the age old problem of being stuck at around 3/4 percent of a bar on the Connecting splash (uninstalled the game in order to test stuff, which didn't work).
Firewall and anti-virus software are disabled. I usually connect through a router, but am currently jacked directly into my cable modem for troubleshooting. Attempted to connect from Safe Mode with Networking, and experienced the same issue. Used System Restore to kick my system back a week, to a point where I know for a fact that I could connect to and play Guild Wars with no issues whatsoever (just as my re-installation attempt did, this resulted in epic failure). Talked to my ISP about it, and as far as they can tell, everything is A-OK on their end of things.
I've scoured GWG, GWO, and various other fansites and support sites for solutions, but everything I have found has either not worked, or has been completely irrelevant (disable your firewall, turn off your virus scanner... that sort of stuff). I really, really don't want to have to discuss this with PlayNC support if I can avoid it, because I just finished up a ridiculous discussion with them about my account security, and between the fact that the whole process is retarded, and that they refused to help me... Well, yeah, I'd rather get help from people who will actually help. I did check through their list of suggested fixes though, but it didn't do me any good.
Ideas? Thoughts? General technological ramblings?
