Gaming Mouse
I've been thinking about purchasing a gaming mouse, mainly for GW and Team Fortress 2, both of which I'm playing on a laptop. So I checked Amazon, and found that the most popular mouse is the Logitech MX518. Anybody have this mouse? Or does anyone have any opinions or recommendations/suggestions on which I should purchase? Much thanks.

I have the mx510, mx518 is a small upgrade from that. Great mouse.
I currently have the mx510 and a G5 connected, I switch regularly, although they pretty much are the same design.
They're good mice. The G5 comes with DPI switching and extra weights, pretty handy if you combine multiple styles of gaming... CS? low dpi&alot of weight. C&C or gw? Lose the weight, use higher dpi!

Well, I use both G7 & G5.
The only diff is that... one is wireless, and one is not wireless, I guess. Lol

I've been looking at the G9 and the G5 as well.. I'm still not sure which of the three is the best, although the weights sounds interesting..

I use an MX518 and am very happy with it.
With all the top mice being good ive always felt it better to go with one your comfortable with. Ive tried some of the others and they just dont feel right.
So if you can get into anywhere that sells them and have a play, or even just hold them, it deffinately helps.

I was heavily into FPS gaming so I have tried tonnnnnnnnes of mice.
Razer diamondback: Very good with mouse tweak to lower MS (you will find it on esreality). It's my favourite mouse except the shape grated me a bit. It's nice for a laptop too because it's small. Doesn't suffer negative acceleration when you move it fast.
MX 510 Suffers negative acceleration. It's too high up, can hurt my hand. Don't like it...
MX 518. Nice optics, but same shape as 510 which again is a problem.
Razer Habu: Ok if you have high mouse sens, bad optics, bad drivers, everything is just bad except the shape.
Razer death adder (one I use at the moment): Very nice, no negative accell. I have to move my mouse two feet (60cm) in a very short space of time (as fast as seems humanly possible for me) and it doesn't skip. It's accurate. Everything I like about it, except underneath the button for me - if I press it. The mouse self destructs. I had it replaced, but I don't dare press the button again. Don't let this put you off though, I think they released a bad batch.
Microsoft IE3: It's good, but i would get death adder now. You can tweak this to 1/ms 1000hz, but it won't live for so long.
In short:
Top of the range logitech mouse (don't go wireless) won't let you down but keep in mind the shape. I won't buy logitech mice, I prefer razer over them.
I had sponsorship in razer, but I would recommend them anyway. I would recommend a diamondback if the shape is ok. Failing that, go with a deathadder.
Do not go with that fatal1ty mouse, it's crap. do not go with the creative one either.

Do not get a mouse with buttons on the side, it can be a hassle if you like to snipe in fps, though it can have its uses in mmorpgs and rts games. In my opinion, you should get a USB optical mouse, [I use a regular Logitech usb optical] and it works fantastic. You should probably save your money and get this, it costs only $20, and works like a $200 mouse. Regardless of your choice, you should strongly consider a USB mouse and not wireless[they are too much hassle]. If you want i can give you the model of the $20 usb mouse i got, it really works like a charm, especially for sniping.

There is nothing up with side buttons on a mouse, though razer diamondback side buttons are bad. It really doesn't matter for sniping.
Check out:
www.fnatic.com
www.fatal1ty.com
www.esreality.com
There is info there on mice. You will notice that pretty much all top players will use a mice with side buttons now.
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...arch&plindex=0
You can see (both these players use mice with side buttons by the way) that there isn't really problems because of side buttons interfearing. This video is maybe a bad example because he's vs the worlds best player of that game, and it's kinda hard to aim vs him =P.

Uh? Can be used for pipe bind or drop weapons >.<.
As far as I know, Forest uses Krait (like deathadder). HeatoN (worlds best CS player) uses microsoft IE3, desktrukt IE3, Lauke IE3. The shape is really nice, that's partly why I went for deathadder =D.

Pretty sure in this match, Astz is using a diamondback.

Microsoft IE3

Krait (I think).
All with side buttons, so...
You can disable them with software if you don't like them.

I used the MX510 for almost three years. It broke, but Logitech was nice enough to send me a MX518 as a replacement. If they didn't, I'd buy the G5 with two side buttons.
Whatever you do, make sure you hold the mouse in your hand before buying it. Don't just buy whatever the pros use.

I have the latest G5 with the 2 side buttons and it's a fantastic mouse. The weight cartridge system is a complete gimick but It's still the best mouse I ever used.

The weight cartridge system is actually useful for some. I had to pull my 510 apart because it weighed too much.

Sorry for this double post, but I've decided on getting the Deathadder. Now I'm looking at pads :P
Razer exactmat/exactrest or this Steelpad thing I keep reading about in all the Deathadder reviews..

Pads are pretty personal aswell though. I prefer hardpads but i know some people that only want to use softpads.

I have a Logitech G5 myself but I'd recommend the MX518. The G5 is great otherwise but the fancy tiltwheel is probably one of the worst mouse wheels I've ever used - it loses sync between the wheel "bumps" and what the OS gets after about one hour of heavy use, sometimes making it suddenly scroll when I try to wheel click something. I hear the MX518 doesn't have this problem.

For mousemat:
Icemat for me is too small, it's 30CM wide. It's really nice if you want to get into competitive GW because the mouse moves so smoothly; however, it can hurt your wrist. It really hurts mine. So I wouldn't recommend it. I also had to take the feet off the bottom, to make it lower.
These mats are similar: fnatic titan, destrukt, fat pad. I use a destrukt mat 45CM wide simply because I'm too cheap to get another, but if I was, I'd go for a new fnatic titan.
QCK Heavy (steelpad) is nice, but it's texture seems to change over a time which is a great problem for me. Over time the mouse will be harder to move. I would say my destruct hasn't changed very much over time. It also doesn't wear out the feet like an ice mat will.
http://everglide.co.uk
I know this is a UK site, but for America you can get something very similar from www.fatal1ty.com (fatpad) and the pad is much cheaper than in England.
https://store.fatal1ty.com/accessories.aspx
Your location says EST, so I would probably get the fatpad if I was you :]. Again, depends on how much space you have too...
I prefer to lower my sens right up and move mouse with my shoulder / arm / and finally wrist if I really need to make small movements rather than doing it all by wrist. So for me a bigger mouse mat is better. If you don't move mouse much then you can perhaps get away with a smaller mat. The larger ones tend to last longer, if they fray around the edges, the middle still works fine for years.

As you see, it's not the best one. I personally can't play with a G5 because I move it quickly and it malfunctions. Any G5. .

Deathadder is a good choice, just be careful of that button underneath (you don't need to use it anyways). They might of fixed it in latest firmware, but it's best not to use it. No need to it .
