Default Disk Drive Problem

I recently bought Crysis, which comes on a PC DVD disk. I have a DVD drive in my computer but it will not recognize my disk. It can still read normal CD-ROMS and DVDs (i tried Harry Potter) but it doesn't know when Crysis is in my drive.

I checked the disk was working by putting it in another computer, it showed up fine. So, what I did was install it through the network. i now have the game on my computer but I can't play it without the disk in the drive, and it won't detect my disk downstairs (which is to be expected I guess)

So, any ideas why my disk isn't recognised? Could it be that Crysis is a DVD + or whatever? I really don't know much about DVD formats, and the disk itself doesn't specify what type it is.

Thanks

Mazey

Your problem is copy protection. Certain drives have a hard time reading certain forms of copy protection. That disc is probably using a newer version of SecuROM and your drive can't read it. I have a Sony drive that did the exact same thing when trying to install Unreal Tournament 2004. My best advice is to get a different DVD drive, they're almost free these days.

Try updating the firmware for your drive. Some older drives have been reported to fail to read/detect stamped DVDs. An alternative would be to mount an image of the DVD disc onto your hard disk using Daemon Tools or similar programs.

This is a bit weird, but it seems to have fixed it for now.
I had an old computer with a DVD drive hanging around. Sadly it was exactly the same model of drive that is currently in my computer, but i thought "what have I got to lose" and installed it anyway.
Well I started up both drives seemed to be working fine, so I put Crysis into the newly installed drive. My computer tried to load it but crashed without success. Once I'd restarted with the disk in the drive it read it ok.

Just been playing and it's great! ZOMG the aliens are scary :P

Thanks for the help
