Same thing happened to me a few months ago. It really, really, really sucks... I was doing a droks run and all of a sudden my mouse stops working and I'm dead a few minutes later. Not sure what to tell you, other then buy a new mouse. Mine was a crappy one so it wasn't a big deal. Hopefully you don't own one of those expensive $50 ones.

I was playing halflife with my brother yesterday on his computer and suddenly the damn mouse stopped functioning properly lol.
I said what junk are you using, how do you expect me to shoot these zombies now lol.
So i basicly downloaded the drivers for his mouse and operating system and after unplugged and reconnect the cable of the mouse... simple but effective.

Just replace it, optical mice are cheap as dirt.
Or you can finally have an excuse to get a G5 .

It's probably broken beyond repair, at least any repair worth bothering with considering how cheap optical mice are. Did you try throwing it at a wall yet? There's always the (small) chance it might start working, and you'll never know until you try.
Oh, and if you get a G5 make sure it's the new model with the "dented" style paintwork. The older red and silver ones have a crappy wheel. Or just get a Logitech MX518, which costs less and isn't noticeably less accurate.

Please save me of keyboard-only browsing >.<

First thing to do - reboot the computer and see if that fixes it.
Second thing - if the first one doesn't help - try a different mouse.
Third thing - if the second thing doesn't work, uninstall any mouse driver you may have installed and let Windows use it's own mouse driver.
Fourth - reinstall windows, replace motherboard, replace computer, etc., etc.

Fifth step - ???
Sixth step - Profit
Sorry had to.
The G5 is an excellent mouse, don't know where people have gotten off saying its inaccurate. My aim improved with CS:S and other twich games. Software is very nice too.
But the MX series is nice as well.
But overall I doubt you are looking at high end mousing equipment since you are trying to "fix" a cheapo optical mouse to begin with...

I've had my Razer Copperhead for some time, good software/drivers and the mouse is very accurate/stable, think its a bit cheaper as well.
