New PC
ok so i love GW i was very much an addict for a long time but then i found a few games that ran better on my pc so i quit playing as much, and then i got a 360 which was smooth for online and i could play with my friends (some of my friends cannt install a pc program). any way i really love pc gaming i have wanted to get back into it but, when i play guild wars its so choppy and slow feeling compared to how 360 games run i quickly get turned off. My internet isnt the best but its not that bad i think my main problem is my pc its 3 years old and wasnt great to start with but wasnt bad.
I have been looking at a pc with
Intel® Core® 2 Quad Q6600
• 3GB of DDR2 memory
• Burns DVDs and CDs
• 640GB hard drive
I will only have 2 other games on this pc besides GW and there extremly small and i have no worries about them, also i have a small budget so yes i know this isnt the best pc for games but from what little i know the specs arent that bad
I have 2 big questions please answer with something constructive
1- do you think it will run guild wars smooth to where my only remaining issues will be with my internet not my pc's specs
2- i'll probly get a lot of not sures here but here its goes, With the way its looking for pc games down the road do think ill be able to run guild wars 2 smoothly on this pc and if not how much more ram or what ever will you think might make gw run smooth
ideas on question 2 would help I want GW2 and will have have a pc to run it smooth when it comes out but ill use what you say to help me figure out if i should get this pc and just upgrade it later or just buy a better pc now
Thanks for any help
p.s. I dont read up on pc games alot any more so i might have missed it do we have any idea how soon GW2 might come out,

Your specs look fine, except you forgot to post your graphics card. So your only remaining issue would be your graphics card.
As for running GW2, well release is set for at least 2 years from now so no one can even venture a guess as to what specs you need to run GW2.

Quad cores would be overkill at this point. Even dual cores are overkill for GW (and may cause lock-ups). But then again, it's more future-proof.
3gigs of RAM is nice (and again, may be overkill).
Burning DVDs and hard drive size doesn't matter to how well it plays games. You only need enough hard drive space for GW + the OS, so anything over about 10gigs is fine.
But, the big thing is, as the above poster pointed out, you didn't specify what video card you were considering. OMG - not "on-board graphics" ?!!!
You say you are on a small budget. You'd be better off at this point to go with a dual core cpu, 2gigs of RAM, and a smaller hard drive, and put the money saved into a decent video card. (nVidia 8600 or better)

Any proof to back up your claim that dual or quad cores would lock Guild Wars? Heavily doubt it, as I have had no problems with either.
Guild Wars just won't utilize Quad cores other two cores as well right now as it might later, since if I recall correctly, DX9 doesn't efficiently use quad.
As for dual cores, Guild Wars does an excellent job utilizing both cores.
On another note, drop 1 GB or RAM to save money. DC DDR2 ram works better in pairs than triplets.
And whats your video card, thats a big deal lol.

I didn't misread anything Russian...
His first question asks if the new computer can run GW well...
And in response to #2, nobody knows what the game reqs for GW2 (due in 2009 sometime supposedly, nobody knows for sure) so we can't help you at all for it.

An 8400GS? What is the GPU memory on that thing? Even so, it should be good enough to run GW1 very well and GW2 (speculating here) pretty well too.

I know what you mean my PC is now almost five years old, and i hate my graphics card. It can run most PC games and Gw fine, but not many of the games in 2007 and 2008. I think my specs are fine except maybe a bit more ram and my graphics card. I have a Radeon X300/500 series.
To answer your question yes, those specs look fine to run Guild Wars. However as mentioned by others, where is the graphic card specs?

Then yes you will run GW excellently, and most likely at full graphics capacity. As for GW2 it should be sufficient enough, I don't know anything on the engine though.
Don't expect to be playing well on Crysis though with a decent framerate even on low though. But thats another story completely.

Pay attention Seifus, He posted them.
Yes. That computer will run Guild Wars on High Graphics settings as well as full sound settings. In fact, that computer will play anything out right now. And I almost guaruntee it will work with Guild Wars 2. Seeing as though GW2 will most likely be DX10 making use of all of that sexy CPU. That graphics card is good for the game. I usually ignore the "System requirements" because they are usually wrong. Heck I am running a stupid P4 2.8 ghz with a AGP 8X EVGA GeForce 7600GT Superclocked with 512dedicated memory and 1gig RAM...And I am currently running Guild Wars in highest graphics, iTunes, uTorrent downloading crap, And 2 internet browsers and even on msn. And I am still getting about 50 FPS on the game. Which is fast.
That computer will kick the crap out of guild wars and most likely guild wars 2... and even if you cant do GW2 graphics on full...the only thing you will need to upgrade will be the Video card...And in which case you wont even need to spend more than 200-250. And thats in 2 years anyways.
So to sum it all up, buy this computer. Or, to save some cash...post your current specs of the computer you currently use and I am sure there will be people here who can get ya set up with something decent. Im sure you got a decent computer now, you just probably have on-board graphics...which isnt a problem...just bring it to a computer shop and ask them to throw a decent grphics card that is compatible with your current system and you will be laughing. You will be able to play guild wars without paying more than 200. And im sure thats all you want if you wanna save some cash.

It's called a mistake, thanks. His first post which he did NOT post his graphic card specs, he posted it a few posts after others.

Are you sure it didn't read 1TB of storage? PC's don't come with 1TB of memory and won't be doing so for at least the next 5-10 years. As for the graphics card, yes it will play Guild Wars OK but I'd still steer clear od the 8400GS as they're a shitty low-end 8 series card and you'll regret it sometime down the line. I'd look at the 8800GT cards, much more bang for your buck.

Will let you know if Quad cores lock up or otherwise misbehave when running GW in a day or so.
I have one on order
Intel® Core® 2 Quad Q6600 2.4
2 Gig memory
1TB storage
Nvidia 8600GT 256 card
Darn good price too so I raided my savings

Well, first off - I said "might" not "would". I have a dual-core and I get lockups, so I am currently working on the problem. I don't feel the need to prove it - especially not to you.
At any rate, if you read these forums at all, you'll notice a great many posts by people complaining about random lock-ups in Guild Wars. One of the things that many of these people have in common is a dual-core processor, and one of the things that some people suggest as a cure is to set the Affinity of GW to run on only one core. (Btw, this dual-core problem is thought to affect other games as well - not just GW)
The most common lock-ups associated with dual cores involve a complete freeze of GW accompanied often by a repeating sound loop. Sometimes GW can be shut down using the Task Manager and sometimes it requires a complete restart/reset.
Obviously, not everyone has this problem. It may depend upon many other factors in addition to having dual cores, such as what sound card, video card, RAM, etc.,etc.
I am currently testing running Guild Wars with a little app called ForceCore which forces GW to use only one core (or whatever I specify). Since the lock-ups are random in nature, it will take a while before I am confident enough to suggest that dual-cores are the problem (as opposed to might be the problem).
