Default $398.00 Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 Laptop.

Hi, im in america for another week and i saw this laptop at wallmart.

SPECS:
# CPU : Intel Celeron Processor 540 (1.86 GHz)
# LCD : 15.4" Diagonal Widescreen TrueBrite Display
# MEMORY : 2GB DDR2 RAM
# HDD : 120 GB
# ODD : SuperMulti DVD+/-RW
# MODEM : 56K
# LAN : 10/100 Base T
# WIRELESS LAN : 802.11 b/g WLAN
# SOFTLOAD : Windows Vista Home Premium

Now, im not going to use this computer for gaming or anything alike, i just need to use this for school stuff. Will this computer be good enough for just normal surfing the net and using word? Or will it horribly fail?

Thx in advance,
Hole

Though I would strongly recommend getting a custom laptop for study the Satellite series are somewhat good.

Toshiba tends to put a rediculess amount of extra software on pre-configured laptops that most of the time only slow down performance. (My Toshiba Satellite P200-15N has 15 pre installed programs related to Toshiba and half of them have no use)

Also, since every new laptop comes with Vista expect some annoying bugs, on my laptop explorer.exe randomly freezes and Vista cuts down batterly life a lot.

And you should be warned when buying a complete computer configuration in a foreign country, if the laptop breaks you'll have to send it all the way back to America, also Windows Vista will be in English only, and American powerplugs aren't compatable with European ones.

It's great until you get to the bit that says "Intel GMA X3100"

Intel's attempt at a mobile graphics chipset to allow some degree of gaming. Works, as long as the game is minesweeper.

After some research i found out that that video card will be able to run games such as WoW, HF2, FarCry, F.E.A.R., etc. Will GW work on it? :-S

Technically correct - it will also be able to run SuperPi to 1000 iterations, it's just that it will take a week to do it.

Guild Wars will run on it - just don't expect your fps to be in double figures much.

The word "run" means the game will start up. Play is an entirely different word. If you like playing your games in slideshow picture format, then yes, that graphics "card" is fine. OTherwise, I would find a laptop with a bit more umph!

Meh after all i decided to buy that laptop. It will arrive tomorrow. As for the gaming part, i will either upgrade my Desktop or buy a new one in a couple of months, since a desktop replacement is a bit out of my budget.
