looking to buy a computer :/
So I pretty much have minimal experiance when it comes to building computers, So I was looking to buy one that could play Gw for under 1,000 from a trusted website/store, (newegg, dell etc.). Could anyone recommend a computer?

Desktop or Laptop?
Do you want to buy a pre-built unit or have it built to order?
What do you plan to do with the computer other than play GW?

I'm looking for a desktop. As long as I don't build the computer and it comes with some sort of warrenty, I don't really care if it's built to order or not. And other then playing guild wars I would use it for the internet and school work.

I have bought from www.dell.com 3x in the past several years and I have been happy with both their product and their service. I'd suggest going through their small business site since they still let you choose XP when you configure a model. I'd suggest staying away from Vista unless you have the money to buy a higher end rig that can run all the extra bells and whistles on it (not really worth it imo).
Do you need a monitor too? If you already have one then that will give you allot more $$$ to play with when you configure your PC.

What kind of video card would I need, I have no clue what would be able to play Gw. I think my friend is going to sell me a monitor, hopefully . And thanks for the tip about the small business, I have no desire to get vista

Any Nvidia 7 series card will do.
if you decide to go for a Dell don't expect the computer to be very upgradable, if you have plans for your computer in the future you're better off with a custom built computer.

anything that's better than a radeon HD2600PRO and a geforce 8600GT will be more than sufficient to run GW.

You need dedicated video card to play GW well, no matter what pc you buy.
Check this one out. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=brcw522&s=bsd
If you want to save money you can drop down to 2 GB ram and the 128mb video card, but you will most likely switch to Vista sometime in the next few years when it's actually worth it and you will be happy for them both then, also your monitor may have speakers on it so you could possibly drop them as well.
It's actually more than you need to play GW, but it will keep you from being outdated as technology moves forward. With that pc you should not need to upgrade anything for several years, as long as your computer lifestyle doesn't change much..... aka. decide to play games like Crysis at Max settings on big screen tv or get hired as a 3D designer for Miramax Studios.

the two i posted will run GW at maximum settings, AAx4, and maintain 60fps in most places.

New video card - moriz, will a 4850 go into that computer as set up or would he need to upgrade some components? I won't offer any suggestions here.
|
he'll need to upgrade his power supply at the very least.

This has an 8600 GT video card preinstalled. Someone else can tell you if it's worth the 250 extra dollars as compared to the last computer I posted.

Don't worry too much about the installed GFX card. The 8xxx series are dropping quick. Can pick up a 8800GT for £100, that is more then sufficient for most games. Best priced card right now is the 4850 though.
