I have near no knowledge of computer parts, but I am in need of a new graphics card. My current processor and 'schnuff' is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Processor 5000+ 2.60 GHZ. 3G of Ram, Vista 32bit. If someone can just point me in the direction of a good graphics card, that would be great. If you have a question about my PC, I'll try to answer it. x.X

Just bought an ATI HD 4890 G card. It's a really good card, and it's price is dropping because ATI is releasing a new line. Look into it if you want something more high end.

What resolution are you gaming at?

I reccomend:
1280x1024 ATI 4850
1680x1050 260GTX/ATI 4870/4890
1920x1200 or above ATI 5870/5970

4850 is fine for anything up to 1680x1050.
4890 can (though just barely) handle up to 2048x1152.

Open the side of your case and look for the box in either the top left or bottom left corner with all the wire coming out of it. Read the sticker on the side of it and post all the information here.

We need to know the wattage of the power supply and what sort of video card slot you have (if any).
The make/model of computer and/or motherboard would help, plus the native resolution of your monitor.
You may need to actually open it up and take a look.

Well, there's not that much things on there that's actually readable. HIPRO is what was written on the power supply box.

Is your computer an OEM ? If so you can try and google search the model number for a spec sheet. Most will tell you the wattage slot types etc... (my guess it is 300 watt range)

You can always add a new power supply and it is not too difficult to do

I just purchased the 4850 and so far I am happy as a clam. I had some BBY gift cards to get rid of and it was in the 120-130 range... you may find maybe cheaper on the web I run full settings at (something)x1080 on GW and from what I had before it is amazing

this is not always an easy task, especially with stuff from dell
i had this optiplex desktop once, had non standard psu, needed to hack up the back of the case with metal cutter to install atx psu lol

where did you get your computer from, what's the model name and number etc....??? You will probably need a new Power Supply to install a "modern" video card.

What games do you want to play and at what resolution???
