Default So My DVD Drive Died...

Sorry for the recent posts, but I wanted to see if this new drive would be good. My Dell DVD drive threw it's last pitch... DVD's no longer read on it. Anyways, i'm considerating to buy this one.

What do you think? Do you think it sounds good for its price? I got Prime so I can get it very soon for free. Do LG drives hold up for a while? I don't want to order a dud.

Thanks for your reviews.

you sure there isn't a solution to it ? sorry that this is kinda off topic but i'm kinda sure DVD drives don't "die" without a reason? something like that happened on my Dell laptop's disc drive when i installed IE8 on windows vista with another windows download. this caused the drive to be unrecognisable by the PC. i searched on the interwebs about it and tehre was something by microsoft powershell that fixed it. goodluck ;D! (oh and by the way that looks pretty cheap for a new disc drive!)

Well my drive is no longer reading DVDs. It will read CDs just fine. I don't want to clean the lens or anything. $24 for a brand new drive sounds good to me.

Moderator notice: I moved this thread to a more proper location. In addition, please don't ever tell people to take their PC to a technician unless we are unable to resolve their issue. Thanks.

Back on topic:

That drive will be perfect, and yes, DVD drives are extremely cheap these days.

However, Amazon isn't the cheapest vendor around by a long shot, and while that drive is slightly faster compared, you won't notice compared to this:

^ Buy that, install, and be happy.

Best of luck to you.

Actually, before you buy a new DVD drive you should determine a few minor details:

1. Does the computer use a standard 5.25" drive? That is - make sure the current drive is not one that has a custom front panel, or is just a bare drive behind a face plate, or is a "laptop" (thin) drive. If the current drive looks the same size and shape as the new one , you should be ok.
2. Is the current/old drive IDE (parallel) or SATA? If the old one is IDE, is there an SATA port available on the motherboard (and an SATA power connector) to connect an SATA drive. If the old drive is SATA than it's just plug&play to install the new one.
