Laptop for my sister
Ok so my sis wants to get a laptop with a large hard drive, not too small or large (or heavy), for photo/some video editing. She doesn't play games but I'm pretty sure a decent graphics card will help the speed of those media programs. something with good battery power too. She showed me this
http://www.staples.com/HP-G72-B66US-...&cmArea=Promos
And said it was 499 on black friday (Guessing that's her price limit). I'm almost certain for that price I can find something more powerful on newegg but im kinda bad with laptops compared to computers. I don't want it to get hot too easily or anything. Not really comfortable suggesting something to her with a card that's not nvidia or ATI, and I had a good history with AMD processors.
Could be just me though.
Can you help me find something better on Newegg? Unless this is the best option she has.

Good grief - when I saw the thread title I thought you were offering a trade ><
But seriously - can't see the linked laptop without a ZIP and I wouldn't know one of those if it bit me.
I'm not encouraged by the fact it's an HP, though

First thing first: what kind of photo/video editing is your sister using and is she using those for school/work or just the occasional editing?
A few guidelines on her requirements, hard drive size shouldn't be a problem these days. As far as the weight goes, 15" should be a good compromise on screen size/weight. Go for a nVidia/i3-i5 combo with optimus for good battery life.
EDIT: For the zip code, just pick a random one from a google search or something (that's what i did). It is insanely annoying to have to enter a zip code just to view the product though.
Specs summary to avoid the sip code hassle:
CPU: i3-370
4GB DDR3
500GB HDD (no info on RPM)
17"
6 cell battery
No dedicated GPU
The rest is pretty much standard on laptops in terms of ports/wireless lan etc (no bluetooth, HDMI or e-sata).
Definitely ask her what her budget is. At the current price on the site you can find something better for sure.

Actually, those specs aren't at all bad for $500 - as its regular price is a steep $750.
The same laptop on Newegg is similarly priced at $744.
Lappies with a discrete display adaptor are going to cost even more.

It's a good deal for $500 - for $750 though you could do better...

Not sure if she is really stuck on the $500, but look at the Alienware M11x, it's pretty small and nice, and reasonably priced.
