Buying New Laptop
Hello everyone,
I am in the market for a new laptop because mine recently was stolen out of my dorm room. Long story short, I don't think I am going to be getting it back and now need a new computer. I believe that my insurance will cover about $1,500-$2,000 for a new laptop and I am looking for something that will be good for games but practical for work as well. It doesn't need to have a large screen because I do have a monitor that I will use for most of my gaming.
I don't have another computer (I am using a loaner from school) so it needs to function as a work and personal computer until I can save up for a desktop or another laptop.
Any tips or ides for good brands is appreciated since I have no knowledge about laptops.
Thanks for your help

That G53 will give you good performance in most games. However expect battery life to be rather poor even when not gaming. Since you need the laptop now i'd still recommend it. Too bad you can't wait since the sandy bridge versions of the asus G series is on the horizon, the 17" models are already available for pre-order at some resellers.

@tijo
Is there any information about when it will be released? I can wait if it is about a week, but much longer than that and I will start getting hate mail from the department I borrowed the loaner laptop from lol

Thanks for your responses. I am looking into an MSI that has similar specs as the ASUS listed above but was wondering what peoples opinions of MSI are. I haven't dealt with them and would like to know what you all think. The link to the laptop is posted below.

I've been very pleased with MSI products over the past few years, that laptop looks pretty good, the only issue I would have with it is that it's really hard to actually see anything at that high of a resolution on a 15" screen, but that's a good problem to have as you can always lower the resolution when needed.

The OP did say that he had a monitor he games on, instead of the laptop screen, so he should be good. Well anyways, what do I know?

True enough. I was actually thinking about while in classes and on the go etc... I personally can't read 1080p text on a 15" screen without enlarging fonts or some other tweak, but maybe someone younger and with better eyes can....

I really like the MSI and the ASUS, and I know either would run most games without problems, but I am actually having a hard time finding those models in stores or online for purchase. I tried newegg and bestbuy...any suggestions of other sites I could potentially find them too buy?
*I'd like to be able to buy in stores so I can upgrade right to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition before purchasing.
Edit: I ended up buying the ASUS off of NewEgg. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who provided some insight.
Here is the link in case anyone is curious: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tent-_-text-_-
