Experiencing uncontrollable lag
OK so, here's the deal. I had basically quit Guild Wars due to lack of interest several months ago, although I did log on every now and then to see what was what. I recently decided to get back into it. For some unknown reason, whenever I log on now, I'm flooded with ridiculously high pings ranging from 1,000 to 13,000. When I used to play regularly I'd be "lucky" if I managed to scratch 350. Has something happened to the servers? I'm currently on the American one. I looked at the Bad Lag? Try This. thread and tried defragging my Gw.dat file down as small as I could, but that hasn't helped at all. I tried reinstalling the client; that didn't work. I know that it can't have anything to do with my internet connection because everything else I do whether it be downloading or other online games works perfectly. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Ouch. Well, just so long as it eventually goes away I'll be happy.

Maybe background downloading has something to do with it. Sorry I couldn't help anymore than that.

No, it's not related to downloading in the background. I've made sure my connection has been totally free.

IMO ping depends on ur distance btw server and your com..and of cuz abit due to ISP..i am..proudly very far from anets servers as i nver get below 300MS..and i get 500+ usually in towns abd battles..only 280-250 in ghost guildhall.. id say i rarely lag, i think GW has a lag conpensator and thus everything shd be smooth..
there are times when i get 1000..and that is when players blink, i moonwalk and tele back that is prolly ur connection btw gw and you..nth much u can do..if it persists..check your firewall..check your other things like other games, web browsers etc..if they dont lag than its gw.
u can also try typing this..in run..
ipconfig /flushdns

Ummm... LOL "experiencing uncontrollable lag". I didn't know there was such a thing called controllable lag. It would be so convenient to have that instead, don't you think?
Mby a firewall is blocking it, maybe you're using a p2p downloading program, maybe you turned on windows firewall and it's blocking it. None of these will probably help, but I needed to justify this post, because I really needed to comment on the name of your topic

While not entirely clear, I was referring to the fact that the intense lag makes Guild Wars unplayable, hence uncontrollable. In hindsight maybe it wasn't the best choice of words, but it's beside the point anyway.

The Anet servers suck, i stopped playing because of this. My internet isn't the best but it's not that bad and other things run fine with my internet so it really isn't a problem with the ISP just the crappy servers Anet decides to use. I can't even log on for more than a minute without some kind of lag, so I don't even play GW anymore. Players are just so used to all the lag that they don't notice it as much, other games don't lag nearly as much as GW has over the past year.

It might have something to do with the internet provider. Sometimes there doing maintenece work and it can get laggy. I know that in the past guild wars has been really laggy but a few days later and everything is fine.
