Try adding -nosound to your command line. Assuming that it will actually disable loading sounds (instead of just muting sounds) you will probably be able to trim quite a bit off.

invest in getting more ram, if you continue playing on playing on 256mb you will eventually fry your system.

You need to get more RAM seriously...RAM really isn't that expensive.

Gogo moar ram, other than that it'll work like butter. I'd recomment 1Gb+ for XP. My laptop 1.6mhz pentium M runs it just fine with similar other specs, not as fast as my desktop of course, but... that's not surprising. Depending on what kind of ram yours needs I'd be happy to toss you my old one that I wont never use but it's only 256k I think.

my firend has some left over comp parts from making his computer so i may go over to his house get a 512mb stick of ram and just make a new computer

Preferrably you should get at least 1 GB of RAM. My old computer had 512 MB, and it didn't run GW very well...though the processor and video card were also very bad.
