problem with monitor / lag
Well after a few days of my 19" Widescreen looking grainy...and as if it were in safemode....I decided to switch monitors....hoping the problem was my video card so I could return it...and get a new one. As it turns out...my monitor is bad...so...now Im using a 17" widescreen...adjusted my setting correctly...but now...whenever I load a game, I get awful lag. Any ideas what or how changing monitors can cause lag...and its system lag...as in...even typing in an IM while a game is up...is awful. Any ideas?

Needz moar info, imo
Post your system specs, Shroudy - particularly graphics card.
More history too - was your 19'' ever running well? The grainy/lack of colour thing might have been the monitor being unsupported and running with wrong settings, or the graphics card was unable to run 1280*1024 at truecolor. It may have managed to run the 17'' just-about-ok, but the increase in used resources making the rest of the system laggy.
Just theory so far, check other threads for proof of my noobery

Edited in the specs...and yup the 19" ran perfect for...4 years or so...then a couple days ago it went grainy...so i restarted the comp and it worked well again until i shut down...it gradually got worse. I ran it at 1440x900 (I believe) on max settings on everything I play (GW, CS:S, AA) with no problems...and now...my system is lagging...I feel like theres something i missed in the settings maybe...Ive run back over them multiple times to no avail though...

Few things to try (general housekeeping, always a good idea anyway)
Remove all traces of dust from system, paying particular care to fans (use an air duster - take usual anti-static precautions)
Check for updated drivers.
Ask yourself "did it all go tits-up when I installed a new program/item of hardware?

Whenever my hardware acts up, I usually give them a bath.
I fill up a pan with 70% isopropyl alcohol, dip the card in and shake it around, then I rinse it off with distilled water. Sparkle sparkle.

Many people are going to tell you I am full of it, but what are the specific models of both monitors? I went from one 19" WS monitor (0.9ms GtoG) was getting frame rates of around 20, my second 19" WS monitor (a Samsung with 0.4ms GtoG) my frame rates shot up to in excess of 45, moving to DVI-D got me up to over 80 in some areas. When I upgraded to another Samsung 22" (0.2ms GtoG) my frame rates went up again.
My point is that the first monitor was a low cost Proview model that did not support DVI-D, my pings were consistantly above 150, changing to the Samsung my pings dropped to about half of what the proview provided.
If installed I would advise uninstalling any software that or first 19" monitor. Uninstall then reinstall your video card driver then reinstall the latest update to DirectX and check MS's update web site as many LCD monitors have driver updates posted there. If your new monitor is slow than .4 and you can take it back; well if it was me, I would take it back telling the retailer that it is just too slow to game with.
