I know what you mean if you're getting frustrated if none of the suggestions anyone has given you have worked. However, troubleshooting can take a bit of time. Just be patient and continue troubleshooting and I'm sure that your problem will get sorted out. You might want to keep a running log of everything done so far so those of us here can keep track of what their support has had you do. That helps make troubleshooting a little easier and prevents people suggesting things you've already tried.

Many of us have already been through extensive tech support communication and recieved no solution. It isn't a matter of "patience". It is a matter of faulty client software. If you had read through this thread a bit closer, you would note that most here have no problems with any other game and ran the game perfectly in its beta stages. Mindlessly defending tech support just to spite users on this forum is counterproductive and useless.

This isn't "mindlessly defending tech support" no matter how you look at it. I'm simply speaking from over 10 years experience in supporting both hardware and software. If you would read the thread a little closer, you'd see that I and several others have listed out plenty of suggestions for fixing problems, and that several people here have been able to fix their problems just by following them. If you are so certain that the client is faulty even though thousands of others are having no problems at all, then I'm sure you can pinpoint exactly HOW it is faulty and fix it yourself.
Having said all that, I'm not here to argue who or what is at fault for the problems some of you are having. I'm just trying to help you guys fix your problems. Throwing your hands up in frustration after trying a few things and pointing your fingers at Arena.net isn't going to get things fixed any faster.

The problem is that it's not really a 'few things' anymore.
Some of us have literally tried everything besides buying a completely new computer. Some people even bought new parts, and still had the same problem.

same probs
I have the same problem running:
A7N8X Deluxe mobo
1GB PC2700
Athlon XP 3000
Leadtek Geforce 6800 NU 128
Audigy 1
It seems a lot of people have problems running this mobo, or other mobos with nForce2, espeically in combination with an Audigy.
I had the same problem with Darwinia - I believe that it is some problem with the onboard sound and audigy not liking each other.
Will post if I find a fix.

If it were somehow possible for users to edit the game code themselves and patch it to their own servers, then the problem would more than likely already been investigated thoroughly and fixed. But until that fantasy scenario takes place, users cannot "fix it" themselves.

A few things? People have continued to have this problem since the game's release in April and have tried everything humanly possible to correct the problem. This is a problem with the client software. And yes, informing ArenaNet of this problem is exactly what is going to get this fixed faster. If at all. Over a week of tech support is patience enough.
On a different note, tech support is now giving the "turn down the graphics detail" solution....for the third time.

I've reached the "The problem is your PSU" phase of tech support, which is complete rubbish considering my computer can handle nightly Hamidon raids in City of Heroes (which, for the uninitiated, is anywhere from 75-200 Heroes fighting one big monster)... and it's never crashed once.
Yet Guild Wars' menu is drawing so much power from my computer that it's causing it to crash?
Please.

well it is plausible, see different games engines use different methods and charges at different points

They just told me to open my case and put a blower in it. I'm of the opinion that if this is necessary, the problem is ineffecient code rather than improper cooling in my system.

Then explain to me why when I ran the game with onboard video at all the lowest settings, it still crashed. The only things drawing power were the mobo, RAM and hard drive. PCI slot fan, video card and DVD burner were all unplugged.
They told me to do the fan thing also. Didn't help. In fact, with my case, it made it hotter (Shuttle case, they actually run cooler when closed).
It is NOT a power issue. The Guild Wars menu at 800x600 with no AA does not take more power than Doom 3 or HL2 at 1280x1024 with 4AA.

I saw this posted in another forum - which may even have come from here previously

Well if you have a Nvidia Card and and Audigy 2 it doesnt go well with GW.
Get the the beta forceware drivers here apparently they contain a GW fix until nvidia get around to releasing them WHQL. They didnt give me that URL, but they gave me the forceware number which had the fix and kinda hinted that i could download it somewhere.
You also need the beta SB Audigy drivers here which also fix some eax 3d issue apparently.
Apart from that they said you need to have the nvidia service running, which i had disabled, and that there is an issue with some AV's (Nod32 and kapersky) which hang on loading new soundtracks, so you need to make the GW folder and exception not to be scanned.
If you dont have a nvidia card or audigy 2, you best submit a ticket with em and see what they say. So far so good for me, im over 3 hours with no crash now, before it was every 20 mins or so.

I am having the same problems, I can play for about an hour and then it will just lock up and I have to restart my computer. Before anyone says maybe your computer is heating up, let me tell you that both my video card which is a X850XTPE and my CPU are watercooled. That is not the issue here, I am really dissappointed that Arenanet does not take blame for this, instead they are throwing it at hardware. I don't want to hear that BS, I can benchmark 3DMark05 in a loop for about 2-3 hours with no problems and this game is overheating my watercooled system? HAHA that excuse won't work here buddy.
I am truly dissappointed, the BETA ran perfectly fine, but now the retail doesn't? WTF!?!?!

By the way, if the GPU or CPU were overheating it would just reboot itself for safety precautions, not just lock up in a game. That shows that everyone elses system that is just locking up isn't because of heating issues. Thank you.

well, guys: my problem stemmed from my CPU. I know its ArenaNet's fault that the game is doing this. Anyways, here's my theory.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=8215
this may not be everyone's problem. However, my computer restarted without warning when trying to play the game. Some people don't seem to be having the same symptoms.

This problem has been bugging me for months. It's not limited to GW but happens also in SWG. Usually it's the lock-up for me, forcing me to restart everything. It has never restarted itself on mine. Today I got a BSOD, those are rare when this happens to me too, usually just lock-ups, that mentioned kmixer.sys, and while searching for info finally found my way here.

Thanks - I have found out that my CPU was hitting 85 C, so that may have been the problem. Turned on an extra fan in the case and blown all the dust out, and it seems to have helped.
Will try these if that has not fixed it....
Strangely HL2, Doom etc do not make the PC nearly as hot. Guess those pretty Vistas need some grunt to produce!
