Random Crashes?
Just as the title says. I'll be playing the game, and then randomly out of no where, the game will lock up and the whole computer will freeze, and I have to restart it.
I have no idea whats causing this.
Specs:
Windows Vista
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT video card. 256 MB video memory.
Any help?

Ive had the same problem also running Vista
AMD Phenom Quad 2.3
3g ram
ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 256 mem
Contacted NCSoft who said my driver wasn't up to date after uninstalling and reinstalling driver several times still happens.
Trying to get help now from ATI
Since this is happening with the exact same symptoms with NVIDIA and Radeon Im thinking there is another problem.
I have onboard sound but everything there is up to date and everything on my computer greatly exceeds minimum specs to play GW.

As usually stated, try forcing the game to run on only one core for troubleshooting purposes.
Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager > Processes > Gw.exe > Right click > Set Affinity > Uncheck all CPU's except for one.
Let us know if that stopped the crashes.
Also what Processor does the OP have?

I have that exact same processor, and I'm under Vista Ultimate 64 bit with no problems.
But it's not always the same for everyone.
Start > Run > taskmgr.exe - this will open it for you if you don't have the option.
Oh also do you have the latest drivers installed for your video card? You get them here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us make sure you uninstall the old ones first, but I'd kind of figure that Vista would find the newest drivers for you anyways.

I just tried the Start > Run > taskmgr.exe thing, and it said it couldn't find it....
Yea, I have the latest drivers. My computer performs that check automatically.

Weird.. then I wonder what is up with that, I've never heard of task manager being whack like that, anyone else know why?
I guess if all else fails, you can try ForceCore, it automatically sets the affinity to one CPU for you, thus you don't have to go into task manager.

Haha yea. I think my computer has a trojan or something, because when I restart it, its just a black screen, and I have to manually run explorer.exe
My computer is ****ed up.

Well that might be why you're crashing, lol.
Maybe try a fresh install of the system if you can't get that under control then? I wouldn't be typing in my passwords to Guild Wars if I suspected any spyware/malware/viruses of any kind.

You mean re-installing the OS?
Today I came really close to sticking that disc in because my computer wouldnt start up. But then it magically started up, and I didn't have to.
I kinda don't want to, because I have soooo many things on here that I don't want to find and re-install again.

Yeah, re-installing. If you were going to re-install then find a method of backing up all of your information that you want, like saved games, pictures, music, etc. I just use an external hard drive for backing things up.
It sounds like your system just has a serious problem and that is most likely the reason why Guild Wars isn't running right. Ultimately in your situation I think a sacrifice must be made if you really do have a trojan/virus that destroyed your OS.

Well if this bullshit continues, I'm going to have to....
Anyways, yea that's probably why it is crashing. Although, I do recall it crashing on me before my computer had any problems...
I knew I should have stayed with XP. lol

Heh, well, nothing wrong with Vista really, I wouldn't doomsday it just because of this.
However I do have both XP and Vista, getting Vista without XP to back you up is like bungee jumping without the cord.

it's not vista.
it's be-who of you to do a complete clean install. meaning if you have your OS disk, DO NOT just re-install over top of your current installation. wipe your HDD completely clean, format, then install.
me, personally, I use autonuke for wiping infected drives, it's free, google it. you can boot from a floppy or burn the .iso to a cd and boot from that. there is also a usb version if your mobo can boot from one.
last computer I worked on had a similar virus(it removed access to the control panel) it's not worth pulling your hair out trying to fix. wipe it.
/edit
and with vista ultimate(it's prolly the same with other vista OS's), in order for me to open up task manager it's ctrl+shift+ecs. (goes right to manager, no log screen)

I think it is vista. I'm having similar issues, though virus-free and with all updates. It started for me after a pre-SP1 issue, and it's all 3D for me...
