New 8800GT problems.
I just recently got a nVidia 8800GT (oc) 512MB, and I tried playing CoD4 on it, RUNS WONDERFULLY.
But when I turned on Guild Wars the FPS was skipping between 30-60 (I guess thats normal), and when I look around I see people moving slow-mo, then skipping to where they are suppose to.
I updated my forceware, I tried using different settings on GW.
I dunno what may possibly be the problem! I checked my temperature on my CPU and card, all is low.
System Spec:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core2 Duo 2.4GHz
2Gigs of RAM
nVidia 8800GT
Comcast Internet connection
SATA Hard-drive
Thank you!
PS: May it be that it's running on DX10?

Run it in windows xp compatibility mode and force it to only use a single core and see if that fixes it.

DX10 does give problems with GW because it doesn't support it. I'd say go back to DX9

I have the exact same setup as you with OS being the exception (XP Pro here). I've never had this problem with other players but I occasionally see this when using henchmen and heroes. They seem to teleport around as I move. Its not lag since my ping is very good and its definitely not graphics card related since the FPS never dips one bit. I attributed the problem to a problem with the game itself, though I could be wrong.

I've had this problem once in a while in vista. I don't know what causes the problem though, but I know it's not my gfx card as I had a 7900GS and replaced it with a 9600GT and now the problem has gotten worse. IMO it's the guildwars graphics engine as I have other problems running guildwars like video corruption and the video locking up. I don't have any problems like this running CoD4, bioshock or crysis.

Do that.

They all run DX10. GW doesn't know what DX10 is.

Cod4 only runs in DX9c. I have other games that use only DX9 and I don't have the same issue.

It was working perfectly fine with my integrated card on vista.
I'll have to try to run it in XP compatible mode.
Thanks

Surely characters "skipping" or rubber-banding IS caused by lag, rather than directx issues?
I had that just half an hour ago. Ping was normal, then skippety-skip, freeze, drop. It happens sometimes.

NEVER Happened to me before, only after I got my new card.
I'm thinking it has something to do with compatibility because my internet is at full speed.

For me it was right after moving to vista. This happens to me randomly, and my ping is at around 100. This isn't like lag or rubber banding. it's like that character animations have stopped and is just skipping around the screen for about 15 seconds before it resolves it self.

Just to say I play GW with Vista without any problem at all. But my card doesn't support shader 4 (DX10) anyway.

Do you have vsync enabled? That caused a lot more problems then ever helped for me.
Also DX10 cards are backwards compatible so I wouldnt worry too much about that.

*gasp* Ill never blame my precious!
Whats the launch code for dx9? I think my computer automatically forced it to launch with dx10.

It cannot force a game to launch DX10 when it is not compatiable.

Just wondering whats the launch code to force GW into dx9?
(Just in case my forceware is somehow forcing to try and run on 10)

This doesn't sound like a graphics card issue IMO but who knows...

There is only one for it to force dx8 but non for dx9, your GPU would not try and force dx10. If it did you would see nothing and I'm sure a ton of errors. The code is very different between the two and handles shaders in such a different way.
