Default Full Screen Edges

When playing in full screen, once in a while, the edges of the screen become colorfully pixelated (only way I can really describe it) as if there were something in the background trying to show through. This goes away after minimizing and maximizing or loading a new area. After a few minutes, it comes back.

Comp Specs:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
E6600 2.4Ghz Core2Duo
2GB RAM
400W PSU
XFX 8800GTS(g92) AlphaDog Edition

I can't figure out what is causing this, it shouldn't be my graphics card?

BTW, for anyone familiar with this particular card or its model, is it normal for my FPS to drop below 60 in certain places and shoot back up to 100-200+FPS when looking around?

Through nVidia control panel I maxed out antialiasing (override application settings) and anisotropic settings at 16x on both for GW.exe

Hmm, interesting. FPS drop is normal, and those ranges tell me you're running with V_Sync off. Try enabling it (it will lock your FPS to 60, but that's all it NEEDS toi be) - it might solve the problem.

400watts seems kind of weak for that setup, but I doubt that has anything to do with your problem at all.

When was the last time you updated drivers? If you have recently updated, maybe try rolling back the drivers?

And I must agree, you should play with V-Sync on just to reduce screen tearing, and the fact that you don't need over 60 frames anyways.

Got anything popping up info boxes in the background? Mine acts very strangely when my firewall or AV updates ...

Yes, as Brianna said, there's no point disabling vsync. It fixes the fps rate to the refresh rate of your monitor (usually 60). I like seeing the big numbers myself, but anything over your screen's refresh rate is totally pointless - you ain't gonna see it!

Newest drivers, have no problems in other games (CoD4, Crysis, etc etc)

Yep, kind of low PSU, but it's not the issue (I don't think haha).

No popups, nothings running in the background.

To be honest, I use default settings for gw.exe in NVcpl. Try default settings for AA and aniso - if that solves the problem, try raising them in gradual stages to see if you can identify at what stage the artefacting occurs.

What kind of monitor do you have? Something tells me you have a widescreen LCD one.

I am having the exact same problem with the colorfully pixelated egde as well. They go away and come back after minimize. I never had a problem until I upgraded my video card to the EVGA GeForce 9800 GX2. The card is much faster than my old one, except it takes about 1.5 seconds to minimize GW from full screen, where my old card was almost instant. I am using a widescreen 46 inch sharp aquos as my display. Would love to solve this problem. Please keep the suggestions coming.

Thought so. I have the same problem on my widescreen, but it's only in GW and only when in loading screens. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I don't see it as a major problem either.

Seems to happen with widescreens only, a friend of mine has the same. I'll look into it if you actually have it while playing, because that would be a problem.

I think Dell monitors are generally ok-ish - I run a Samsung 2232BW at 1680x1050 standard without this problem.

Incidentally, Aera - have I ever mentioned that I find your arse very distracting?

It does happen while playing, but it is very hard to notice. But because i know what to look for, i can spot the line from time to time while playing. If i had never seen it on the load screen, i would never have noticed it in game btw, the line is only on the left and top. sometimes just left, sometimes just top, sometimes both at the same time. But never on the right or bottom.

Probably not, but you're not running the game through texmod when these things occur are you?

This exact problem has been fixed once before in GW
Only then it was only on the bottom, the last row of pixles turned into crap and all pixelated

So i'm guessing this is yet another GW issue, and not ur drives

I had this problem in WoW. It was something to do with the lighting system. It only showed up when I switched to my widescreen monitor.

I'm using a Samsung 2220wm 22 inch wide screen and I've never had any problems, 1680x1050*.

I really can't think of anything else since I've never heard of this problem, try changing the resolutions around in full screen? Or maybe the .dat is corrupted, but I don't really think it would be the .dat in this case, but you never know.

yep, it's while playing and it seems to be very distracting to me because I catch myself staring at it a lot haha. it's not my resolution, I can switch to every single one and the same problem occurs.

I'm having the same sort of problem; a pixel wide edge on the far left that I notice during cinematics and loading screens. I'm using an LGL227WTG 22" widescreen. It only happens in GW, in any of the other games I play there is no issue. It's not terribly annoying, but it seemed like a good idea to bring it up.
