Security?
Am curious on peoples input regarding proper security for Windows Vista x64. Which software seems best/least invasive for a simple gaming system? Firewall? Ad/malware killer? For A/V was thinking NOD32 (the v2 version seems good on my XP systems.) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
T.T

AVG free is a great anti virus, i highly suggest it (but i dont know if it works on 64 bit) the best spyware killer is Spybot search and destroy. these are the 2 security programs i use. i personally dont use a firewall because they annoy the hell out of me (constantly popping up with stuff like "blah blah blah is accessing the internet, is this ok?" GOSH!)

Good ta know some progs are still in use. I use Spybot, CCleaner and Adaware on XP but this whole Vista thing is beyond me. Will try Avast and go with the Vista firewall. Thanks for the quick replies, very instrumental.

NOD32 is amazing, and I highly recommend it if you can get it.

Yeah, was using NOD32 v2.7, will do some research and see.. I found the newer NOD to be too invasive and a resource hog (not that that matters with 4gb of RAM now.) Any suggested sites for optimizing (i.e. cleaning the crap outta Vista) or modifying it to run smoother and in a stable/safe way? So far it seems just fine (Vista x64), am a little lost being used to XP but I guess I had to bite the bullet sooner or later.

Yeah, I went from XP to Vista X64 and it was weird, I hated it at first. Now I love it, and I haven't touched XP on this computer in like 4 months, need to wipe the dust off that poor hard drive and plug it back in.
It is pretty stable though, I turned off a few things like Window Previews (useless) but I keep Aero on to keep it looking nice.
I would probably go with NOD32 if I could afford subscriptions and whatnot, but Avast or AVG is probably your best choice as far as free scanners go, they seem to do justice.

My vote is for NOD32 - extremely thorough and extremely non-intrusive.
I'm also using Comodo free firewall - I'm not going to recommend it, however, as its pop-ups create havoc with Guild Wars.
