it has two PCI-E 16x 2.0, so it should support SLI.
also, you'll probably want a beefier power supply and processor. going SLI needs additional power, and you'll be horribly bottlenecked by your current CPU.

Arg thats what I was afraid of, I dont want to wrap up a fortune in a new system (grad student who has enough bills) Haha.
Might need to kick it down to a single card for time being and upgrade to SLI at a later date.
Ok, say I upgrade the PS to 680 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709015)
Can I go without updating my CPU for time being?
Changed mobo to this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157128

I would go back to ocz ram, the 1 akimbo card, the jetdac mobo. unless you play crysis you will be just fine with that.
this is why, at that point you dont have a kings ransom invested, both amd and intel should be rolling out new chips at or near the end of this year, THAT is when to pick you pony,so to speak, and build a new system. AS 1: the older parts will plumit in price and 2: if you want to get up on the bleeding edge that is the time to do it.

if you're willing to wait, the new radeons are coming out next week. by all indications, the HD4850 gives a significant jump over the 8800GT for approximately the same price (~$200 US, but probably a bit higher).

Exactly I dont do much aside of GW and GW2 when and if that ever comes out, so I dont need anything extensive.
Ill do OCZ ram, that jetdac mobo, and 1 of those akimbo cards.
I will not upgrade the PS, or anything else for that matter, just those 3 items. Hopefully thats everything needed to run.

Alright its back.....
After 2 days of peace, and no issues...the graphical errors are back and worse then ever. I have not bought anything new but fear that I need to soon....
Any last chance efforts to save my current setup?

yeah, i guess the card is really dying then.
if you have a cheapie card to act as a stand in however, it might be wise to go with it and wait until the end of the year. intel's nehalem cpu will be released then, and according to rajah, it will blow your socks off.
i see your mobo comes with 6100 IGP... it will run GW and is pretty fast for an IGP, but you'll take a large performance hit regardless.

No, only nVidia chipset boards are SLi ready. That is an AMD board. You will want to go with the new ATi 4850 cards if you are not going to switch processors.
I would recommend if you have the money, going with an AMD based system using the new 790FX motherboard and 2x 4870 or 4850 cards (whichever your budget allows ) You will have to wait until July 1st to get both types of cards.
Here is the 4850.

Get two and Crossfire them with this board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136044
Oh, and it is time to upgrade the CPU, and you will have to get new RAM. Here are my recommendations.
CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103244
Cheap, unlocked multiplier, easy to overclock to 2.8-3.0GHz on air cooling. Nice little CPU, great price. Not an Intel, but pretty close.
RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166
Now, that is a cheap, higher performance PC for ya. Go go!
OR: Yes, you wait for Nehalem. 4.5GHz on air cooling is fun. Gotta say, this chip is mighty powerful. It also has an integrated memory controller, which is interesting to design for (I am on Nehalem project) This was a fight we got into today after a VERY long day.

Thanks Rahja for posting that, much appreciated.
Im not going to invest a whole ton at the moment, just something to get me by for now till end of year when or when gw2 rolls out. Ill invest a lot more into a nice new system.
Ill keep all that in mind Thanks again

When Nehalem comes out... well, basically the world is going to explode from this things speed. Albeit, my intern David is annoying the crap out of me regarding resistor compensation theory, and I am about to explode or fire him (leaning more toward the explode part, as I don't want to fire him)

Well, I can't link you to my research as that breaks any NDA that I have from both Intel and nVidia (NDA = non disclosure agreement).
However, Anandtech had some rough samples of Nehalem they grabbed. Check out this article for at least some information. These chips are even faster and more powerful than their tests reveal though, as their testbed was very very bad (little to no development for it at this point, at least on the finishing touches that give the major performance boosts)

Enjoy the read.
