Default Problems after upgrading graphics drivers

Guild wars has always been a bit of a problem for me, it freezes unexpectedly every few hours, sometimes few days. Its playable, just annoying when it happens.

I decided to upgrade my graphics card drivers which i did and restarted.

Then when i went onto guild wars i got all sorts of wacky stuff popping up all over the place.

Heres just one screen as an example

i then restarted and the problem seems to be okay for the moment, guild wars is running alright, though if it persists i'll reverse the changes.

Any idea what causes these problems -_-?

The pic is a warrior hench skin, lol I've never seen anything like this before.
Your dat file could be corrupted as well. Also are you using any mod?

That looks like texture corruption, that is very similar to what textmod does to grab textures out of the game.

Delete your gw.dat file found in the directory, and re-download all of the files, and for re-downloading I suggest doing -Image. If the problems persist then try reverting drivers; it could just be the only solution.

Are you using textmod? It will occasionally do that, cover a whole screen with a texture, just need to minimize it then maximize until its gone.

What card are you using? The driver itself shouldn't have any effect on the dat file.

Try going back to 169 drivers, I had a lot of problems with 175, including freezing.

Following your advice i switched back to 169 and it seems to have resolved both issues. Thank you very much for the help!

The new driver release is excellent. Upgrade to it. If you have problems, they are on your end, because I have put the new drivers through torture tests, and they passed each one.

I've tried using the 175 drivers twice, both times completely uninstalling the 169 in safe mode, then reinstalling. I can't even use the NVidia control panel since it crashes, I loose 20 fps in Guild Wars, and the system becomes completely unstable. Not to mention Neverwinter Nights has been unplayable for EVERY driver release of the video card I have. If you call this excellent drivers you're a complete idiot. I've been using computers since the beginning of the 80's and built computers for over 15 years. I've used most brands of video cards avaiable. NVidia's drivers and product line has been the worst I've used. Their customer support is non-existent, drivers written by amateurs at best, and hardware built to fail.

I have tried the P05(P5p) bios, it disabled sli support on my sli ram and raised my cpu temps almost 10c. This was for people having problems with specific games and video. I had neither issue with p04.

I tried the 175 drivers 3 times, 1 time in beta. 175 drivers did work but in gw it left disembodied shadow from:me,heroes/hench and dead monsters. It was amusing to watch master of whispers shadow run on the ground without him.

Maybe on P06 and 17?/18? the drivers will work for me. Btw I did dl the drivers, boot into safe mode and run driver sweeper to completely rid myself of old drivers , before installing the new drivers.

@fusa, please refrain from flaming rahja. As I see it, nvidia is, hands down better than radeon. If you want crappy drivers look at ati and creative. In comparison nvidia is really good.

I've been fiddling with the same bug myself, and, after just updating to the 175 series of drivers today, it persists. I'll try -image'ing my dat file again to see if the problem persists and report back if I remember to do so.

EDIT: Problem still persists after an -image. Woohoo.

I have the 175 drivers from nvidia (tech support in NC told me to try to reinstall the driver) and my GW, and my whole pc for that matter, keeps freezing and I can't do anything else but push the reboot button. Perhaps I should try going back to the 169 drivers and see if that works?

A rollback is always worth a shot. On the other hand, the 175 drivers are known to work, so you really need to identify what in your pc is causing them to hang.
