Every time I start GW:Prophecies I have to download the 5000+ files?!

Any idea why?

If you don't like that happening every time you load the game and background downloads while you play, then fully update your game client by making a shortcut just for that purpose:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

This will grab every update to the client that's available. When it's finished, you will have a completely updated game. I usually run -image after every game update to ensure I have the full patch.

Expect to wait a while to get all the files, but it's worth it.

Don't use the this shortcut to run the game, because it won't.
