All such data is server side, the only things you need to back up are your saved builds and screen-shots.

So, will I have all my characters, I mean, it's not like I'm remaking my account... they should be there, right?

Awww, man I remember when this use to happend to me. It was just constant, Error after error, it got to the point I couldn't even get to the pain login screen before the error poped to. It would come back to back. It really did suck I know how you feel. After a while it just stopped didn't really do anything that I remember but I was happy.
Any ya all your characters and other stuff will still be there.

Your characters, weapons, armors and inventories are all stored on ANet's servers, not your PC. Don't worry.
The only thing you might like to back up is your screenshots folder and your templates. Unless you're on Vista, in which case your pics/templates are stored in username\documents\guild wars

if the game is redownloading everything each and every time, there are two possibilities:
1) your harddrive is dying, which is causing data corruption and forcing the game to redownload everything.
2) you are still using the FAT32 data system, which has a limit around 3gb. since gw.dat is 3.55gb roughly, that will lead to problems.

Anything I can do to fix the second one? I'm running out of options here... like i said this happens all too often...
And 1 more thing: after I do after i do the -image can I "copy" the file somewhere so I don't have to do it again, just "paste" the damn thingy?

yes, you can copy the gw.dat file to somewhere else. that's where everything is stored.
btw, to check if you're using the FAT32 format, go to my computer, right click on your C drive (or whichever drive you installed GW on), and click on properties. it should tell you there.
if the file system is listed as FAT32, i believe windows will allow you to convert it to NTFS, which is the format you want. if it's listed as NTFS already, then go with possibility #1.

All data is stored on the GW servers, you won't loose anything. And if you got problems with your .dat file, I do not recommend you to back it up. Just trash it. You might want to back up your templates.
Gw.dat is strange anyway, both my friend and I have exact the same chapters and bonus addons, we both did a full -image and my gw.dat was 500MB bigger.
