Download game files outside of game???
I downloaded the game client off the web after not having played GW since before the first expansion came out and have never played it on this computer, so all I have is what the game client gave me.
So I get to the character select screen fine, my account still works, yada-yada, but when I go to enter the game it brings up the loading screen like I'm zoning, but I have over 20,000 files to download. Then, within 2-3 minutes the game says...
"Guild Wars detected a possible hardware malfunction. This may be due to a faulty or overheating processor or memory chip. The application will now terminate."
Searched around, nothing from the past 3 years about this issue, all of it is from 2005.
So my question is this, is there anywhere to get those files on the internet outside of the game client, and put them in the correct folders? Or is there a fix for my game crashing during the DL?
Anyway... system specs...
Vista Home Premium (32bit)
...
HP SR5233WM Pre-build POS with...
Pentium D 2.8GHz
1 Gb Ram
Radeon HD 2400 Pro 256MB Graphics card.
I followed the advice on the page that the game pulls up about running memtest and it found 0 errors, which is when I went out and bought the low-end graphics card from walmart. (Walmart cuz I can return it within 45 days for a full refund if it doesn't work. No questions asked... I love 'borrowing' things from walmart =) )
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I've been messing with it off and on for nearly a week now.
Gratzi,
Jaster

Have you run gw.exe with the -image extention to see if that works?

If something is reporting an overheating issue at just a loading screen let alone if it were to be doing any rendering... What's that going to solve pre loading anything, seems your issue is more serious.

EXACTLY the thing I needed to see if it's a more serious issue like Ec]-[o said or just the simple fact that my game files were so very behind.
I'll know if this fixes it as soon as it's done downloading 110,700 something files lol.

I get the same error message
Hi Jaster,
I get the same error message ("Guild Wars detected a possible hardware malfunction. This may be due to a faulty or overheating processor or memory chip. The application will now terminate.") even before I get to start playing, and usually before I even start downloading files.
I've installed the game from a retail purchased set of CDs, running on a new PC (Vista Ultimate 64 sp1, 4GB ram, nVidia 9800gx2, etc...).
I've run memtest86 for 24 hrs, all clear. Have upgraded motherboard BIOS, up (and down)graded graphics card drivers, and now removing RAM DIMMs 2 at a time, to try and determine if it's hardware or software fault.
Getting very frustrated...

Just in case: did you make sure you've got the latest drivers for your respective video cards?
