Default Guild Wars - My PC Slayer.

Well, I finally felt the urge to go and buy myself a new laptop for school and a bit of casual gaming. All though I felt excellent with myself for this purchase I am getting a bit frusterated.

Guild Wars is making my computer eat its self alive essentially, and heres what i mean.

When i play guild wars longer then 30 minutes, the GPU and nvidia drivers freak out and the gpu gets forced to downclock its self. I know it isnt a over heating problem because I am running around 55-60c while gaming. I occassionally get BSOD saying the nvidia driver has blah blah crashed and so on, BUT this only happens in guild wars.

I played oblivion all day today with no problems, wow no problems, mass effect no problems.

Any ideas? I have tried everything to stop my gpu from downclocking, and the display driver from effing its self.

Acer 6920g laptop
vista 32bit
9500m gs
3 gigs ram
5750 core 2 duo

the thing is, i took the dat file from my old xp machine and dumped it into my vista folder, could this cause the problem?

What GPU is in that rig?

What graphics settings are you playing with?

I took the .dat file form my old XP laptop and transferred it to my Vista laptop and have none of the problems you are experiencing. Granted, I have my own seemingly unique problems, but not the ones you are describing.

My guess would be outdated or unsupported GPU drivers or the entire card itself could be unsupported.

EDIT: I actually had to rollback the GPU drivers that came stock on this Vista laptop in order for GW to function.

check to be sure you have the latest drivers, if you do have the latest ones, try going back to the previous ones - if you do not have the latest, then install them.
If that does not resolve the problem, then you may need to do a re-install of the gw.dat file. Use the -image parameter to do that overnight sometime (it will take about 6 hrs on basic DSL).

I have tried a few different driver versions, along with the acer originals.

The GPU is a 9500M GS, which is essentially a laptop version of the desktop 8600 GT.

I guess I will go to my sisters or something and do the -image, I cannot afford to go through 4gigs or bandwidth considering im capped at 10gig/mo.
