What triggers a save of the GUI Layout?
Just wondering if anyone knew what trigger the game uses to save your current layout.
Meaning, the default layout your client is setup with (where things are, how big they are, ...) seems to be stored server-side since you can install the game anywhere, and then login to see the exact same Interface as in your old location.
But today, I've been resizing my Mission Map, doing various things, quitting the game, and reopening it only to find that...the Mission Map is back to how it initially was before I tweaked it at all. Those "various things" I've tried in an effort to get it to save are:
- Go to Guild Hall
- Enter an explorable zone
- Open and Close it
- Idle for a few minutes
but none have actually caused the thing to save its state for the next time I load the game.
So here is where I restate my question: what can I do to ensure the thing will save its state for the next time I open the client?

For me its usually just changing where something is or its size to make the change to stick. Are you changing resolution of the game at any point? Or is your desktop a different resolution from Guild Wars (not sure if that would affect it or not)? When I play on my alt account sometimes I'll run it on my main computer at 2048x1536 resolution, and I change layout to fit it. Later I'll switch to my server and run at 1280x920 and the layout will change around on its own to fit everything back on screen. Also I know some settings are kept in gw.dat. But its been a few months since I've transferred a game to another computer so can't remember which ones. (pretty sure thats video and sound settings, maybe some layout)

Thanks for the reply.
I'm playing in windowed mode, and not resizing the window while I'm trying this stuff. The only consistent thing I've found that works is to just idle for a VERY long time (relatively speaking, in reality it is ~10 minutes). But having to do that is, I feel, inconvenient. So I'm still searching for some sure-fire way to get things to stick immediately.

My setup saves everytime I change it except maybe after an update theres been a few times it reverted to default.
You can set your GUI layout also by going to your "Options" button and then "interface" and change things from there that will save also.

I have a question kinda regarding this, hope it's ok to post it here!
I have 2 systems also, and would like to change between them. One is a laptop and the other is an Asus Eee PC 1000H, so the screen size and resolutions are very different.
So when I change to the Asus the interface is HUGE and cluttered .
I dont want to keep resizing everything each time I change system, as I will change often, so is there a way to set a different interface on each system?
Thanks.

There isn't a way to set different interfaces, that I know of Rin01, since the layout is saved within GW.
Anyone else have any ideas?

I play in full screen and don't have that problem. I've noticed that things move around some when I switch to windowed mode (to fit in the window) and then return to where they were when I switch back to full screen. I suggest you try making the changes in full screen and then switching back to windowed (if you must )

Technically Katsumi, everything layout wise is saved server side.

I had a feeling it was all saved on the server. Oh well, thanks for the quick response guys, much appreciated.
Looks like I'll have to try and find a middle ground between the two systems. Either that or I hide the interface while on the smaller screen
As to your problem Leighwyn, if you haven't resolved it yet, what resolution do you have it set to in full screen? It's probably a silly idea, but maybe you have it set to a resolution that GW doesn't support so well.
Sorry I cannot be of more help, and hope you sort it soon if you haven't already.
