Graphics "crashing" problem
Nothing has changed, I didn't upgrade any hardware/software to cause this issue, and before this started happening GW ran fine and dandy. Every now and then, GW suddenly freezes and the graphics/textures seem to "crash". It starts out mild, like this:
And slowly keeps "freezing" until eventually I'm left with something like this, random textures and patterns across the screen.
Minimizing and restoring seems to help, as does restarting the client, but it's rather annoying to have to do that every time this happens. Any ideas? Computer specs for those interested:
nvidia geforce 8600 gts
2gb ram
500w psu
hp pavillion a1644x standard mobo/processor
GW normally runs at 60 fps when it's not doing this, so I'm pretty sure it's not the hardware.

My guess is your .dat is corrupt. That's the best explanation for this.
You'll just have to re-download a new .dat file.

If you're running TexMod that could also be a problem.

The above answers are definete possibilities.
I had the problem and after reloading everything including graphics drivers the bug turned out to be the Graphics card itself.
good luck

Ugh, I've been having this problem for ages. My first though was a heat problem. That wasn't it. Next was currupted .dat file. That wasn't it. I did a complete reinstall, that didn't fix it. I got a new graphics card. That didn't fix it. Got a new power supply, didn't fix it. I think I've replaced about everything aside from the blasted mother board. If anyone has any other suggestions as to what it could be, I'm all ears!

I'll try reinstalling, because I've had this graphics card for a long time with no problems up until about two weeks ago. I don't have TexMod or anything like that either... so I'm guessing the .dat file.

Unfortunately, it could be many things and it would be hard to fix without some hands-on time. I'd start by making sure the cooling fan on the video card (and all fans) is running and blow any dust out of the heat sink(s).
You could also try the -image command line to download a new .dat.
Outside of that, it could be your RAM, motherboard, power supply, etc.

This issue is most certainly an issue with the GW.dat file. Reason? That is texture replacement in the second picture, and a GPU cannot cause direct texture substitution, only corruption.

I also got very similar problem and I'm going to reinstall gw for now. but for replacing gw.dat, should I delete it and install GW from disc, or download everything via client?

Delete it, install from disc and do -image thereafter. If the problem still occurs, delete the dat and do a -image
