had a virus or something, so i formatted my computer (c drive) and now i cant get into my d drive, i keep getting this error

c:\resycled\boot.com is not a valid win 32 application

any help would be appreciated

Im no expert but i do know formatting a virused drive doesnt always fix the problem as some viruses can infect the boot block and other drives .From what you say it seems virus is still present as ive never heard of windows using boot.com specially from recycled.
You may need a way to virus scan the drives with a decent antiviris program

Empty your trashcan first of all.

You don't really explain what you mean by "can't get into" D drive.
Does the D drive show up in "My Computer"?
Is the D drive an Optical drive (CDROM,etc.), a hard drive (HDD), or something else?
If D is an HDD, is it a separate drive or a partition of the main drive?

my harddrive is partitioned, c and d. after formatting my computer and reinstalling drivers etc, i cant get into my d drive, as in it shows up but wen i click on the icon i cant get in. i think im just gonna have to detele that partition and reinstall windows again for the 3rd time..

You have a boot sector virus, boot.com is one of the components of this.

Spiritz is right formatting does not create a new boot sector on your hard drive so will not clear a boot sector virus.

If your happy to wipe everything then boot from the windows install CD, delete all existing partitions, recreate them, format and then reinstall.

There are ways of retaining your existing D: drive or even to repair and clean your C: drive and boot sector without reinstalling but it gets a lot more complicated.

If you only formatted the C: partition, the D: partition should still be there. Most likely, the boot sector virus corrupted the boot sector. You should make sure that you have gotten rid of it.
One thing that can be done (by someone computer savvy) is to boot off the install CD and use the "Repair using command line " (or whatever it's called) to rewrite the boot sector.

If the D: drive still doesn't show up after that, it may depend upon what version of Windows you have. In WinXP Pro you can use the Computer Management tools to re-mount the D: drive.
