It is probably an error in the gw.dat file. You can try several things.
- it may clear up by itself after a while
- you can edit the "target" line in your GW shortcut to add "-repair" (remove it afterwards)
- you can edit the target line to add "-image" - this will take a looong time to finish, so run it while you're at work/school/sleep. (remove it afterwards)
If you don't have a GW shortcut, in Vista, go to the "start" bubble >> games - and right-click on the GW icon. Choose "Send To">> Desktop (create shortcut)
Right-click on the desktop shortcut and choose "properties". Edit the "target" line as above so it looks like:
"C:\\program files\guild wars\gw.exe" -image (or -repair)
Note that the -image is outside the quotes.
