/panic Can't access GW or guildwars.com
Hi, So I'm new to Guild Wars, but this is a bizarre error.
So tonight, for the first time in a couple days, I fired up the game. I'm pretty sure it did an update, and then brought me to the main screen (to log in).
I punched in my info and got that error that implies that I don't know how to operate my router. I figured I'd check out the webpage to see which ports to forward (as I hadn't done that yet, but it didn't seem to cause any issues, as the game was running fine).
Then, the website wouldn't pop up either. The first site I visited was www.guildwars.com/support and that didn't work, and to check if it was a broken link or something, I tried www.guildwars.com, to no avail.
Just to be safe, I opened the ports on my router (my only firewall) and tried the above steps again. Still no website, still no game.
So, I pinged the website:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\xxxxx>ping www.guildwars.com
Pinging guildwars.com [206.127.153.151] with 32 bytes of data:

General failure.
Ping statistics for 206.127.153.151:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
I've never seen this error before. I'm on the same PC, using the interweb just fine. I've just checked the website again, and still nothing. It's been about 45 minutes now.
So are the servers down? Or is this on me?
Thanks
KFJ

Main site works for me. Which suggests it's a router/firewall based problem. Have you tried just restarting your PC? Sometimes the simplest cures work.

I don't know about the game.
People have reported problems with the site though, problems that seem to be affecting only a few. Apparently people can access:
https://www.guildwars.com
However best advice at this stage - given the ambiguous nature of your problem - is to turn off your router and modem leave them for 5 minutes then boot them back up again.

This is happening with several of NcSoft's web pages for some people. The only one I can access is help.plaync.com, and https://www.guildwars.com Try to get in touch with http://help.plaync.com/cgi-bin/playn...nduser/ask.php the more info they get from others the better, last message I have recieved from them they stated they are trying to collect more information. They did make a change that allowed me to load it one time with lynx (a text only browser) but never been successful since. Some people have said it started two weeks ago, I think it just started a week ago for me, and don't expect any progress until next year.
They'll ask you to disable firewall, proxy, antivirus, bypass your firewall, clean your browser cache, including cookie, refresh your DNS, so might as well try those.

Berek, I have to apologize.
I read your post, and thought, "Gee, that took alot of thought"
And I blew it off. I tried the other stuff. The intense stuff.
And it didn't work. And I got desperate. So I'll be damned if I didn't come crawling back to the 3 replies that I had to cling to. I restarted my computer.
And now it works.
So Berek, I apologize, and thank you for your help. Thanks all of you guys, it just so happened that my computer needed a 5 second nap.

Haha it's no problem. Sometimes restarting just helps refresh RAM and other Temporary files. Glad to be of service!
