No sound at all....
I don't know which section this should go in but here goes. I had no problems with my in-game sound at all until the 10th september update....now I have no sound at all for some reason, it's like it got muted and stuff but it's not. I'm really angry as I seem to be the only one with this problem. I am using a on-board realtek ac97 audio sound device...

Updated the FMOD sound library to correct several issues, notably a crash bug on multi-processor computers.
that's from the official wiki notes.
can you post the rest of your system specs?

This sounds overly simplistic, and I doubt it will help much, but every once in a while my GW sound will stop working, I just have to restart my system. Have you tried that?

try running the game with the -dsound command line switch. this will force the game to use the old directsound software mixer. since your computer is fairly old, it might give you your sound back.

I might try looking to see if there's an updated sound driver for your system. That's always something to try when you have issues that no one else seems to be experiencing.
I've had strange sound issues cleared up when I updated my drivers before, so it's worth trying.

You could try Realtek's generic drivers - http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...3&DownTypeID=3 - although it is usually better to get them from your motherboard manufacturer.

Another one to try is:
-sndwinmm
I believe this outputs to the Windows Multimedia output driver. This would have higher latency than the directsound driver output, but it might work for you.

I suggest that you people report this to A-Net via a support ticket on PlayNC. I am leaning more and more towards it being their problem.

Minako, I'd recommend updating to SP3 regardless of the current issues.

Yeah, seeing as they explicitly mention a sound system update, that seems fairly certain. It probably wouldn't hurt to give them more info. Obviously, it's not everyone that's having an issue. It seems to be limited so far to Realtek AC97 drivers. Also, I think the more info we gather here, the easier it will be for the devs to fix.
Incidentally, is there anyone with a Realtek AC97 driver who's sound is ok? I'm curious exactly what the common thread is...

My second computer has the Realtek AC97 on it. I just started up Guild Wars to test the sound and everything seems fine, I can't really confirm if it messes up elsewhere though because I don't play anymore and it would be really annoying to go tons of places to find out.
My main computer just has ''Realtek HD Audio output'' for it's device. Both computers are running off of the Integrated mobo sound cards of course.
My motherboard on the second computer: Nforce4 - A754: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813135190

Full hardware acceleration enabled, taken from DxDiag.
Just posting all that for informational purposes, it works on my realtek audio systems as far as my tests go.
Oops and I almost forgot to mention, both systems are running off of Windows XP Professional SP2.

Do you have any headphones plugged into your tower at all? I'm not a tech guru at all so I don't know how it could default possibly to headphones for a particular game, but it's the only thing I can think of. Also, maybe check your sound options in the Control Panel and in-game Options if you haven't already. Which you probably have...sorry I'm no help.
